Session 89: Vampires & Virulence
"I feel like anticipation is the worst part of tentacles."
General Summary
Sir Bartleby met with Ayanda Brightsun to discuss the situation with the refugees from Jeredin. While open to the idea of housing them within the city, proper channels would need to be followed. Furthermore, the refugees should be proven healthy and uninfected before they were allowed entrance. It was not the response Bart hoped for, but it was a start.
Ayanda notified Bart that, per the Dragon Punchers' recommendation, investigations were underway regarding the staff of Stanimir Keep. Nkiruka Ashbloom , the state treasurer, was under some amount of suspicion. The halfling, claiming to be exceedingly busy, had been difficult to pin down the last few days. Consequently, none had been able to ascertain his involvement with the Ushers of Seudihr. An under-the-table agreement was made, should he be located and found a threat.
Jinn spent much of the afternoon canvassing the neighborhoods in the poorer districts where people had gone missing. His investigation, while time consuming, yielded results. Victims had all had contact, either directly or indirectly, with farms bordering the woods outside Merchevo. Several of the locations still held remnants of a strange plant. Suspecting this to perhaps be the vector for the disease infecting Osdra, the rogue took a sample and set about finding the rest of the party.
Following a brief meeting, the Dragon Punchers parted ways again. Bart and Chari accompanied Kesmon to a remote location where they could further investigate the nature of the plant Jinn had found. Jinn, for his part, took Micah to investigate Nkiruka. The rogue finally revealed to Micah that Amadine had been a cover to allow him free reign in the city. This was not, however, the biggest piece of news they would learn that evening. In the early hours before dawn Treasurer Ashbloom returned to his office to find the notorious vampire hunter Amadine waiting for him. Interrogation led Ashbloom to reveal not only that the empire was heavily indebted to Oneitheia, but that he had be adjusting the books to compensate. Also, he was a vampire.
Armed with this news, Jinn and Micah returned to Bart and Chari. In the evening Bart spoke with Primarch Samavi about all they'd learned. In the morning the Dragon Punchers, along with Kesmon and a small cadre of Bahamut acolytes, would venture forth into the neighboring forest to discover the source of the griefgalls infecting the citizens of Merchevo. Closer to home, the Dragon Punchers hoped to find the source of Osdra's plague before it was too late.
