Generall
generall (a.k.a. gen)
I grew up on a world of humans. While I was never in the military, I do believe in keeping healthy and in shape. Because of my rippling muscles and size I am often mistaken for having been in the armed forces. That's why others started sarcastically calling me Generall, or gen for short.
One day while out running my daily route, carrying my machete in case I run into trouble, I came upon something I'd never seen before. It was a circular object, spinning, lights glowing and swirling; yet it didn't seen to be solid, more like an entrance to a cave like I've never seen before.
I was somewhat scared, but also curious. Being someone who has never backed down from anything, I reached out, hand shaking, and as I put my fingers into the lights they disappeared into the colorful swirl. Then my hand, arm and finally, I walked through this, what I'll call a doorway.
As I fully entered I found myself in a wooded area, water on one side, hills on the other. Since standing there wasn't doing me any good I set off toward the hills, nervous about what I'd find on the other side.
As I slowly make my way over the hill another one of those swirling door appears, but this time someone walks through, approaching me. I can tell this is someone not to take for granted.
She asks who I am and what's my purpose for being here. I explain my story, and as I finish up she seems to take on a friendlier attitude. She tells me her name is SamDragon and she had sensed something unusual was happening. That something was me.
But now I need to be careful of dragons and demons and other creatures that aren't so nice. "Dragon ??? Demons ????" I ask. "Don't try to scare me with threats of creatures that are myths, they don't exist." She laughs and tells me I obviously need some sort of protection. She closes her eyes, mumbles something and hands me a flask with some liquid in it. While I'm afraid to drink it, I'm even more afraid of her.
She explains that now no one can sneak up on me, I will always sense when there's danger nearby. Also, my vision is more powerful than I could even imagine, able to see the smallest details for miles.
"What ..... What have you done to me?"
"I've given you powers that will keep you safe. I now suggest you head northeast until you get to Caer Wen. Tell the Dragon I sent you there." She turns and disappears into the door, which I later found out is called a portal.
I look in that direction, and with my enhanced vision I can see a walled community. Once I get there I finally find a gate. A deep voice on the other side asks who I am. I yell back, "I am Generall, SamDragon sent me." With that the gate opens and I ask to be taken to Dragon.
Two guards escort me to the Palace, unlike anything I've seen before. We climb up the long marble staircase before standing at a set of doors, real doors, they must be 20 feet high and 15 feet wide, made of solid wood.
My escorts turn me over to what must be the palace guard. He takes me to another room, closing the door as he exits. After about 45 minutes the doors open and in walks a man who commands attention as he does so. His jet black hair combined with a matching beard gives off a sense of him being in charge of anything he touches. But it's the scar that radiates fear.
I tell him SamDragon sent me, then relate my story. He approaches me, places a hand on my shoulder and tells me that until we find a way to get me back to my world I have a place in Caer Wen on the condition I join the city guard. With my size I should be helpful in defending the community. As he speaks he keeps his eyes on my machete, a powerful weapon made of blue steel. I explain that while I've never been in the military, I'm smart enough to know not to travel without any form of defense.
For the first time since entering this realm I feel safe.
A wanderer who finds a new life in Caer Wen until he can return to his own world.
