House Moran
"I served you in life and I would serve you in death if there was any service that I could render unto you now. Maybe there is. May you rest in peace and may the gods grant me and my family strength and wisdom to guide your people in peace as well."
House Moran are the descendants of Berand Moran, advisor and close second to Arlen Blye even before their people ever set foot on Carylla Island. After Arlen's death left behind no direct heirs and his brother declined to take up the reins of leadership for their whole people the leaders of the seafolk finally settled on Berand taking over the mantle of leadership, founding the kingdom of Lassara and establishing House Moran as it's royal family in one step. These events are described in more detail in the events of the Founding of Lassara.
After the coronation House Moran's efforts concentrated on the capital and it's rebuilding. While the other Houses took large portions of their forces and began to carve out a kingdom from the surrounding areas, the royal house began to develop the lands around the capital, soon settling minor towns and cultivating the land, laying down roads and pushing back the wilderness.
There have been good and bad kings in the history of Lassara but each and every one has been a Moran, mostly male heirs as the princesses were only allowed to inherit if the late king had no sons. When sailing the oceans became less and less of a prospect for the people of Lassara, the Morans pulled their generational ship Winddancer into the capital and set it up in a huge expedition hall inside the royal palace.
The king of Lassara and leader of House Moran wears the crown of the realm and bears the sword Wind, forged from one of the shards of Neril. It is tradition for the king or queen to receive a set of ceremonial plate armor, forged from the melted armor of their predecessor, on the day of their coronation. The ruler also wears the Amulet of Narya, a family keepsake that was given to Berand Moran by the goddess herself and is said to protect the wearer from death.
All children of House Moran serve two years in the Borderguard of House Istion from age 16 to 18 and are afterwards pronounced adults, ready to lead the family, should the line of succession come down to them.
All Lassarans worship the five gods of the Quintet but Morans traditionally favor Narya over the others, due to the help she gave them in their most dire hour. A larg temple in the capital city is dedicated to the goddess, located right next to the royal palace.
House Moran commands a sizeable force of soldiers, divided into the royal guard, who are one of the few heavy infantry units of the realm, though their numbers are few, the city garrison of the capital, Lassa and their mobile forces who fight wherever needed to bring peace to regions that are in turmoil or where bandits have to be put down and whenever needed they support House Istion's forces in the defense against raids from the Shokai Plains.
They also employ an agency of covert operatives, known as the Boatswains and used as reconnaisance, spying, assassinating and foiling of plots. They are fiercely loyal to House Moran and are handpicked elite soldiers out of all the Houses' armies. Highborn and lowborn are accepted in the organization and any family tie is forfeit upon joining.
