Magadino Plasma Pistol

Article Contents

The Magadino Plasma Pistol is a modern Vusinor weapon design. While it is was still designed around four hundred years ago, the Vusinor civilization is well over twenthy thousand years old, and the technology has changed little in four centuries. Like other plasma pistols, it uses a process known as Induction heating to vaporize a ball of metal, then forcing it through several magnetic coils to accelerate it down range at hypersonic speeds.

The weapon's battery is rechargeable by simply plugging it in. The weapon's kit comes with several adaptors for use with Regalti and Maorian technology, both allies of the Vusinor. The batteries in these weapons is of such an advanced design that replacements are said to never be needed, but as most Vusinor battery designs have a life expectancy of over a thousand years, this claim has yet to be tested.

There is a detachable magazine in the grip that holds over six hundred 2 milimeter wide spheres of copper. When buying one of these weapons it often only comes with one magazine due to the high capacity.

Operation

This weapon operates in a similar way to older plasma pistols such as the Tegano. It superheats a plate of copper until it vaporizes and turns into a charged plasma. When the trigger is squeezed, the molten copper exits the chamber due to the intense heat and pressures in the chamber. Though it has a higher muzzle velocity and higher rate of fire, the Magadano is half as powerful than the older Tegano model because it uses a smaller portion of copper with each shot.

The Recoil would still be very high with that kind of power, but this modern plasma weapon has a secret Vusinor technology installed. It uses a miniaturized verion of the Inertia Converter that are used on Starships. It still converts the motion into artificial gravity, but it temporarily makes the weapon itself two to four times heavier for a split second, timed with the recoil. The artifical mass disappears when the gravity does, which gives the effect of reducing the recoil so much it is hardly noticeable.

Disadvantages

This weapon's effective range is only 150 meters, which sounds fine for any pistol, it is not necessarily fine for a Vusinor plasma pistol. Barely a tenth of a second after leaving the barrel, the heated copper plasma cools down and turns into a fast moving spray of metal pieces that quickly lose their energy.

The Weapon's 1248 joules of energy is only true at point blank ranges, and it loses roughly 75% of its energy every 75 meters. At 75 meters, the energy of each shot drops to 312 joules. at 150 meters, this drops to 78, then at 225 meters, it drops to 19.5. It would still hurt to get hit by this past these ranges, but it is almost always not lethal.

Related to losing energy quickly, this weapon has some trouble breaking through EM shields. The magnetic portion of the shield strips the plasma away, and the cooling copper ball loses its energy relatively quickly after that. It will still do some damage, but is not fatal and won't even cause major injuries. For the average EM shield, roughly 25 well placed shots are needed to overwhelm it in order to allow a lethal shot to take place.

While the weapon has thousands of years of technological advancement in the hardware, it is still rather loud when fired, outputting 90 or so decibels. A Human should be fine with this noise for short periods of time, but it is loud enough to cause hearing loss in both Regalti and Vusinor.

About the ammunition

These supercharged copper plasma balls are much faster than Earth based bullets, but, at a weight of 72 milligrams, it weights over a hundred times less than your average 9x19mm Parabellum round. It can easily do twice as much damage though, not just because of the velocity of the round, but due to the nature of the plasma itself.

The thing about super hot plasma...it tends to expand and melt everything it touches until it loses its energy, whether that be metal, ceramic, flesh, bone, the air around it, etc. This 2mm ball of copper leaves the barrel as a 10mm ball of charged plasma. Sure it loses its energy quickly, but it will burn a hole through a person or steel wall at point blank ranges.

"This weapon has the power of a .44 magnum, but the recoil of a small .22 pistol. It also has a fully automatic mode! It's really fun to use!"

Vitor's Weapon Vault

Abold Vitor is a Vusinor lieutenant aboard the Starship Void Chaser. He and all eight of his mercenaries are armed with a Magadino Plasma Pistol. He also has a dozen more in his weapon vault and trains every member of the crew to be able to fire one in an emergency.

He prefers this weapon to more powerful ones because the round is unable to fully break through the outer hull of the Void Chasers, making it safe to shoot inside. This makes the weapon excellent for security and defense aboard starships.

Abold probably owns more ammunition for Magadino Plasma pistols than any other weapon he owns, and he keeps a large stockpile in the Void Chaser.
