Giant Goatsbeard
Basic Information
Ecology and Habitats
This giant quadrennial is only found in fertile, rich soil like that found around the Point of Inception and volcanic regions. It has mutated a great deal, now standing at its full height at approximately 15' to 25' in height with a think, tree-like stalk that is hollow and allows the plant to bend in higher winds. It has a large tap root that is generally about as long as half the plant's height, helping to keep it anchored. The plant maintains a large, single purple flower for nearly half of its life before the flower falls away allowing for the seed fronds to burst forth in a huge, radial display that are then allowed to be shaken free or fall free of their own accord from the plant as a manner of germination.
Biological Cycle
This is a quadrennial plant that takes approximately four years to reach the end of its life cycle.
