Malindor
Supreme Grandmaster of Winter, Shah's Love, The Herald of Devotion Malindor (a.k.a. Phaedra Cadence)
In the icy grip of winter's embrace, there emerged a champion whose once-great love and passion had been twisted into something dark and foreboding. Malindor, once known as Shah's Love, The Herald of Devotion, began her journey as a fervent force for unity and religious revival in the elven lands, catching the attention of the goddess Shah herself with her zealous devotion. Trained by her predecessor and blessed by Shah herself, she was gifted a cloak named "The Veil of Devotion," upon her elevation to champion, woven from the threads of twilight, which granted its wearer the ability to cloak themselves and others in a protective aura, shielding against harm, a divine boon from the goddess upon her elevation to Champion.
Once the Blight fell, and the Spectral Fragmentation began to take hold of her people, Malindor strove to do all she could to stave off the effects of the madness that was quickly deteriorating the minds of her kin. Unable to staunch the losses and decay of her culture, Malindor made a desperate ploy, utilizing forbidden magics and taking it upon herself to interfere in the outside world.
As the once-lush forests withered and died, Malindor, still young and impressionable, found herself consumed by grief and despair at the loss of her homeland. In a desperate act, she assumed the name of Phaedra Cadence, and joined a mercenary company, never revealing who or what she really was, initially assuming the role of cook and playing the role of an untrained and inept young girl until she could quicky prove herself through action to the men in her company, eventually assuming full command and disguising them in white armor and standards.
In tight formation, they rode out to attempt to avert the ongoing Civil War of Human Attrition that now waged across the face of Cairne, further consuming an already crumbling and delicate world. She chose no side, and made no attempt at diplomacy, but would instead ride out in the midst of any battle she could intercept, and lay waste to both sides while they were otherwise engaged, causing severe casualties on both sides and crippling the overall war effort leading to a cease fire...this act would, however, come at great cost. The effort needed by the young elf to not only maintain the fight, but the secrecy and removing her dead from the field so as not to arouse any suspicions took its toll, and in 4 AR, following one of the final battles of the war, she was mortally wounded by an enemy spear to the chest. While she lay dying, she was approached by Erebus Kane, the powerful Lich lord who had been following her exploits with great interest. In her final moments, they spoke, and Erebus offered her the opportunity to join him in immortality, and to be his champion. She was initially enraged, but could not argue the cause nor lose her last chance to make a difference, to honor her calling. By this time, she could already feel Shah's absence in the world, and the fading light of her people. In desperation she accepted his offer, and became his Champion, and he honored his agreement, granting her a form of immortality that came with tremendous power and ability. Erebus, content with their transaction sent her back to her people, changed. The Queen, now fully in the throes of Spectral Fragmentation, barely noticed.
Phaedra, her skin and face drastically gone white, drifted away from her empathy as she settled into her new form, and began to view the role she played within the dying forests as a measure of impractical effort with no hope in sight, but there was still a part of her that remained loyal to her former role, so she remained until the order from Queen Sharvisal finally came down to exterminate the Halflings. Phaedra, now removed from the trappings of mortality for nearly twenty years, had become entirely detached from anyting remotely close to her former empathy, and saw this as a way begin her true Lord's work, to maifest a world of dark and quiet peace. The Halflings held little significance in this vision. While they were talented healers, a world where hearts no longer beat need little to do with such skill, so she rode out without a second thought to remove them as she was ordered. When her contingent came upon Fingal's Rise, she was accosted by the two other remaining Champions, Eldarian and Ioelena Lurie. She fought them both with a overwhelming ferocity and strength that caught the other two off guard. This allowed her to push through to a terrible victory, slaying her brother, Eldarian, and horribly wounding Ioelena Lurie who only narrowly escaped with her life.
