Pale Man
"Silence is only golden in the light of day"
Pale Man is an urban myth that was seemingly brought to life in the wake of the Blight. A child's tale of a creepy watcher at the edge of vision that had the ability to separate into three distinct creatures and then reform again at will, allowing it to chase its victims down no matter how they ran or where they hid. More prevalent in the outlying Ongommu Tae communities, this creature is a constant harrying fear for children and parents alike, and is believed to be the cause for a great many lost lives and missing people over the last seventy years.

Pale Man appears as a gaunt gentleman dressed in slightly out of fashion finery wearing black silks and a tall hat. He stands approximately 2.5 meters tall and carries a long evening cane. When he separates into parts, those parts appear as three spherical creatures, each has a unique predominant features and are approximately 1 meter in diameter.
- Jae Consisting of varying shades of yellow, this creature's surface is made up of smooth skin across which spreads a huge mouth fill of needle-like teeth. Above this mouth are two small black eyes set into the surface.
- Rhy This creature appears as an almost comically large eyeball, there are no visible features aside from the pupil and brown iris.
- Pae Pae resembles a spherical shaped humanoid skull, made of smooth bone and vacant eye sockets.
Ecology and Habitats
Pale Man is a vile creature who delights in tormenting victims. He has been known to tease and harry them, using his vast intelligence to play games with and manipulate for his own amusement before trapping them in the Void Cloak. Scholars believe he gains power from every soul dragged into his domain. The three parts are equally dangerous but lack the ability to speak, more often utilized to run down prey in a pack-like performance. There are some that believe that this unique ability is the result of otherworldly triplets having fused in utero and then being directly affected by the blight energy at the moment of birth. The creature, like everything in Cairne, lacks the ability to travel between this and any true outer realms, but seems to hold a key of some kind to the possibility of opening a portal elsewhere due to the fact he maintains a small pocket dimension that is seemingly under his control.
- Void Cloak. Each part of this cloak has the ability to completely envelop a victim, dragging them into a pocket dimension that exists in each of them. This small realm is a vacuum filled with Void energy. Any creature pulled into it takes 4d10 damage per round from the negative energy reaction. Once the portal is closed it can only be opened from the outside. Jae and Pae swallow victims while Rhy absorbs them through his pupil. The combined form has the ability to envelop victims through his open cloak. This is done by a successful critical hit and successful grapple attempt.
- Nightmare Gaze. Each living creature within twenty meters of Pale Man that can see it may freeze up in terror as they relive their worst nightmares for a short time.
