Seraphic Abomination

The Seraphic Abomination stands tall and imposing, its once divine form twisted and corrupted into a monstrous visage of destruction, its hulking body reaching a height of 12 feet, with huge wings covered in tattered, decaying feathers that hang limply from their frame. The feathers range in color from an ashen gray to sickly shades of black and brown, appearing more akin to rotted flesh than the angelic plumes they once were. These wings, spanning an impressive 20 feet, are torn and ragged, with occasional patches of bare bone peeking through the decayed remnants, and dripping with a foul ichor that trails behind the creature, leaving a viscous, black trail in its wake. Its eyes, once filled with divine light, now seethe with malevolence, glowing orbs of a sickly yellow hue, that pierce through the darkness with an unsettling intensity. The surrounding flesh around its eyes is stretched and distorted, giving the abomination an eerie, sinister appearance.   As the Seraphic Abomination unleashes its devastating power, dark energy crackles and surges around its form. Its muscular physique exhibits an unnatural strength, and its talon-like claws are tipped with obsidian-like extensions that are capable of rending through both flesh and spirit alike, and when the abomination takes to the air, its wings beat with a haunting sound, creating a chilling chorus of whispers that echo through the air. These whispers carry a sense of dread, as if they carry the anguished cries of all the souls it has ravaged.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Seraphic Abomination is a nightmarish fusion of its former divine beauty and its current twisted and corrupted form. Once a celestial being of grace and radiance, it now embodies the darkest aspects of destruction and malevolence.   The Seraphic Abomination appears as a colossal entity, towering over all who dare to witness its terrifying presence. Its form is semi-translucent, like a wisp of shadow given physical substance, and the edges of its figure ripple and shift, as if it exists in a constant state of partial manifestation between realms. It is often wreathed in an eerie, ethereal glow that emanates from its core, casting a sickly radiance upon its surroundings. The creature's most striking feature is its once majestic wings, now reduced to a ghastly spectacle. The feathers that once sparkled with divine light are now blackened, tattered, and dripping with decay. These wings, which once carried it with grace through the celestial spheres, are now a haunting reminder of its fall from grace and its current monstrous state.   The Seraphic Abomination's eyes are its most unsettling aspect. Once shining beacons of benevolence and wisdom, they have transformed into seething orbs of malevolence. They appear as hollow pits of darkness, swirling with malefic energy that can drive even the bravest souls to the brink of madness. The creature's gaze is said to pierce through the hearts and souls of its victims, leaving them paralyzed with fear and despair. Its limbs, once harmonious and graceful, are now elongated and contorted into grotesque shapes. They bear a skeletal resemblance, but they move with an unnatural fluidity, allowing the Seraphic Abomination to glide effortlessly through the Spirit Realm, leaving a trail of darkness in its wake.   At the heart of its form lies a dark and pulsating core. This core is an embodiment of the malevolent energies that now course through the creature's being. It is a source of its power, from which it unleashes devastating blasts of dark energy capable of annihilating all that stand in its way. The Seraphic Abomination's very essence is suffused with the torment of its corrupted nature. Faint whispers of its past celestial self can sometimes be heard emanating from within, hinting at the agony of its fall from grace. These tormented echoes further add to the aura of dread and despair that surrounds the creature.   As an entity existing between realms, the Seraphic Abomination's form is in constant flux. It can alter its appearance at will, shapeshifting into a form that most effectively terrorizes its victims. This ability allows it to exploit the deepest fears and traumas of those who encounter it, intensifying their suffering for its malevolent pleasure.

Ecology and Habitats

The Seraphic Abomination is intricately tied to the Spirit Realm, the twisted prison created by the cataclysmic event that disrupted the natural order of life and death. Within this desolate realm, the creature roams freely, feeding on the suffering and despair of trapped souls, however, its influence extends beyond the confines of the Spirit Realm, as it can manifest in the World of the Living, perpetuating terror and destruction.   Spirit Realm Habitat: The Seraphic Abomination finds its primary habitat within the Spirit Realm, a bleak and desolate plane of existence where trapped souls languish in eternal torment. This twisted prison, born from the shattered order of life and death, serves as the perfect breeding ground for the creature's malevolence. Within this spectral realm, the Abomination is drawn to areas steeped in the most profound suffering and anguish, where the energy of trapped souls is at its peak.   Manifestation in the World of the Living: Although primarily bound to the Spirit Realm, the Seraphic Abomination possesses the ability to manifest in the World of the Living, where it can wreak havoc and perpetuate terror. It appears in places tainted by the Blight's influence, where the boundaries between the realms thin, allowing it to slip through. These manifestations often occur in locations of great darkness, such as desecrated temples, forgotten graveyards, or sites scarred by the aftermath of cataclysmic events.   Psychic Leech: In both realms, the Seraphic Abomination acts as a psychic leech, drawing upon the emotional energy of its surroundings. In the Spirit Realm, it feeds upon the misery and despair of trapped souls, absorbing their suffering to fuel its own power. In the World of the Living, it preys upon the fear and anguish of mortals, consuming their emotions to empower itself and perpetuate its reign of terror.   Corruptive Influence: The Seraphic Abomination's presence in the Spirit Realm and the World of the Living is marked by its corruptive influence. Wherever it roams, the very fabric of the environment warps and twists under its malevolent touch. Plant life withers, becoming twisted and grotesque, while the air grows heavy with a sense of dread. The corruptive energy it exudes seeps into the surrounding ecosystem, further spreading its blight and intensifying the suffering of both the living and the departed.   Unholy Nexus: The Seraphic Abomination serves as a nexus, connecting the Spirit Realm and the World of the Living. Its presence in both realms strengthens the bond between them, perpetuating the cycle of torment and despair. The creature's actions and influence in one realm can ripple and affect the other, heightening the malevolence and suffering experienced by all.

Behaviour

The Seraphic Abominations are characterized by malevolence, sadistic pleasure in torment, manipulation, and the desire for dominance. It employs psychological warfare, deception, and the unleashing of devastating dark energies to break the spirits of its victims. Its ultimate goal is to dominate the Spirit Realm and feed upon the suffering of trapped souls, forever expanding its influence and perpetuating its reign of darkness. The Seraphic Abomination's hunger for power and domination knows no bounds, driving it to pursue its malicious ambitions relentlessly.

Civilization and Culture

History

the Seraphic Abominations is shrouded in ancient lore and the cataclysmic events that unfolded with the Blight's descent upon the world. Once revered as divine beings, they were transformed into twisted and corrupted entities, becoming avatars of destruction and embodiments of the shattered celestial order. Though their origins trace back to a time long forgotten, it is said that there exist only twelve of these malevolent entities, each unique in appearance and power.   The Seraphic Abominations were once celestial beings of immense power, residing in the dimensions beyond the physical and tasked with maintaining the delicate balance between the mortal realm and the realms beyond. They embodied virtues such as purity, grace, and enlightenment, however, during the the Blight, these celestial beings were tainted and transformed, their once radiant forms corrupted into grotesque abominations.   When the Blight descended upon the world, it disrupted the natural order of life and death, sundering the connection between the mortal realm and the afterlife. This cataclysmic event not only closed off the gates to the realms beyond but also inflicted a pervasive corruption upon the celestial beings. The Blight's dark energies seeped into their essence, warping and twisting them into monstrous forms, eradicating their divinity and birthing the Seraphic Abominations.   Legends speak of twelve Seraphic Abominations, no more and no less. Each of these entities bears a unique appearance and possesses varying degrees of power, reflecting the diverse virtues they once represented. Some are depicted as towering monstrosities with wings of decay and eyes seething with malevolence, while others may be more spectral, their forms almost ephemeral and ever-changing. The Seraphic Abominations, now bereft of their divine nature, became harbingers of chaos and agents of destruction. With their newfound corrupted powers, they bring devastation wherever they tread, spreading suffering, despair, and madness in their wake. Their actions are driven by an insatiable hunger for power, domination, and the perpetuation of the Blight's corruption. Following their transformation, the Seraphic Abominations found themselves forever bound to the Spirit Realm, the makeshift prison for the souls of those who have passed since the cataclysm of Cairne, able only to cross over through great effort and for a short, limited amount of time. Within this desolate realm, the Abominations roam freely, their presence perpetuating the torment and suffering of trapped souls. They relish their role as wardens, forever ensuring that no soul can escape the eternal grasp of the Spirit Realm.   Prior to the Blight, these divine creatures each represented a powerful virtue, and were placed by the gods to serve as stewards for the peoples of Cairne, meant to teach and perpetuate the positive aspects of their natures. These entities were created in the early days of Cairne's creation in a joint effort by all the gods, who's initial visions of the world were far more unified than what they became over time, leading them to have a more harmonious and fair vision. As time passed and the sibling deities grew more distant, these divine creatures waned in presence, no longer fully supported by their creators, and while they did continue their work, the scheming and politics of the gods caused them to be mostly pushed aside and left to their own devices, lessening their presence in the world to such a point that they were nearly forgotten by all but the most pious of priests and clergy. In their own saddened states, the creatures retreated to the fringes of Cairne's realm, where they remained, weakened and disassociated until the Blight, fading into legend and myth within the minds of Cairne's people.    The names of the twelve Seraphic Abominations before the Blight's corruption are lost to time, obscured by the cataclysmic events and the passage of ages. However, legends and fragments of ancient lore hint at their original names, which resonated with the virtues they once embodied. While the precise names may vary in different tales and interpretations, here are the most commonly agreed upon names attributed to them:
  • Seraphiel, the Divine Luminary: The Seraphic Entity of Purity stood as a symbol of untainted essence, embodying innocence, cleanliness, and uncorrupted virtue.

  • Virtuosus, the Paragon of Honor: Honor, once embodied by this Seraphic Entity, encompassed integrity, loyalty, and the upholding of noble principles.
  • Salvator, the Redeemer's Grace: This Seraphic Entity represented redemption, forgiveness, and the hope of salvation for those who had strayed.
As they became more and more twisted by the effects of the Blight, as well as being severed from the source of their own creation and forgotten about by the mortals they were created to serve. Years of this despair and the ravaging of the Blight energies upon their forms twisted them as far from their original form as as possible, and trapping them within the borders of the shadowy mirror dimension that now housed the specters of the dead. Finding new purpose in their malevolent existence, the twelve found a new purpose, unhinged from their divine obligations and free to pursue their own interests under the hateful influence of the Void. In so doing, their identities and purposes shifted and they became the Seraphic Abominations they are now. While little is known about them, some scholars have followed the threads of ancient history and continued to study what information can be gleaned through interactions with spiritualists and the lost records recovered from the ruins of lost places. As far as has been uncovered thus far, the hierarchy of the Seraphic Abominations within the Spirit realm is now ruled in piecemeal fashion by them in their new forms:
  • Decrepitus, the Putrid Ascendant: The Seraphic Abomination of Purity, once a symbol of untainted essence, now embodies corruption, decay, and contamination. It spreads its vile influence, polluting all that it touches.
  • Vespera, the Shattered Radiance: The Seraphic Abomination of Grace, once associated with elegance and beauty, now represents destruction, chaos, and the desecration of all that is harmonious and orderly.
  • Erevion, the Veiled Corruptor: The Seraphic Abomination of Enlightenment, once a beacon of wisdom and knowledge, now embodies ignorance, deception, and the manipulation of truth.
  • Maledictus, the Blighted Arbiter: The Seraphic Abomination of Justice, once a symbol of fairness and cosmic law, now represents tyranny, oppression, and the abuse of power.
  • Lacrimosa, the Tormentor of Compassion: The Seraphic Abomination of Compassion, once a vessel of empathy and kindness, now embodies cruelty, sadism, and the delight in causing pain and suffering.
  • Ruinath, the Devourer of Courage: The Seraphic Abomination of Courage, once associated with bravery and resilience, now embodies cowardice, fear, and the willingness to harm others to protect oneself.
  • Discordia, the Chaos Incarnate: The Seraphic Abomination of Harmony, once a symbol of unity and balance, now represents dissonance, disharmony, and the fragmentation of all that is harmonious.
  • Desolara, the Annihilator of Hope: The Seraphic Abomination of Hope, once a source of inspiration and optimism, now embodies despair, hopelessness, and the extinguishing of any flicker of light or possibility.
  • Malgros, the Unyielding Weakness: The Seraphic Abomination of Fortitude, once associated with strength and resilience, now represents weakness, vulnerability, and the exploitation of others' weaknesses.
  • Obscuron, the Whisperer of Shadows: The Seraphic Abomination of Mystery, once an embodiment of the enigmatic depths of the cosmos, now embodies revelation, unveiling dark secrets and forbidden truths that lead to madness and destruction.
  • Infidelus, the Betrayer's Mark: The Seraphic Abomination of Honor, once a symbol of integrity and loyalty, now represents betrayal, deceit, and the breaking of oaths and sacred bonds.
  • Perditor, the Eternal Damnation: The Seraphic Abomination of Salvation, once associated with redemption and forgiveness, now embodies damnation, eternal torment, and the denial of any hope for salvation or respite.
From deep within the Spirit Realm, these creatures do their best to sway the hearts and minds of the people of Cairne in subtle and manipulative ways, attempting to drive down the remaining life on Cairne as a matter of spite and hatred from what they view as a remnant of their former masters that should be removed to allow the dreams of their creators to die entirely, robbing them of any further power they may still hold and causing their demise, wherever they now reside.
