The Sanguine Song
The blade itself is carved from the thigh bone of one of the fallen primordials, and the hilt was crafted from iron that was ripped out of the ground by magic and molded into its distinctive crescent shape through spellcraft that no longer exists in the mortal realm. It is a jagged and ancient looking sword, covered in pock marks, dents, chips and stains.
Upon grasping the blade, the holder will begin to hear nearly inaudible whispers in an ancient elven dialect urging them to do harm to any living creature around them, friend or foe. This is an effective compulsion empowered by the magic of the item.
While an individual may resist this, the compulsion becomes harder to ignore with each passing hour the sword remains unfed. Each hour the weapon remains in the possession of the individual, they must make a wisdom save with a negative one penalty for each cumulative hour that passes. Failure forces the holder to lash out at the closest target to them in an attempt to kill.
The sword has a plus five bonus to hit and damage and each strike adds a bleeding wound that does an additional 1d4 damage per round for one round.
History
This stained blade once belonged to an ancient warrior chief of the elves, dating back to the primordial march itself. The violence of the era in which it was forged mingled with the raw magic of creation that was still integrated with everything at the time, imbuing the blade itself with the spirit and power of the warlord that once held it.
