The Undone
The Undone are the spirits that have left behind some item, person, or event in their lives that was so poignantly incomplete, that it continues to be the sole focus of their existence in death as well. These spirits are communicative, but hyper focused on the thing they believe was left behind. They will assail the Spiritualist in many cases, begging or demanding that they complete this thing for them if they are made aware that the Spiritualist can understand them, though more often than not, these poor souls are bound to a location, allowing the Spiritualist to move on and ignore them if they so choose to...though this is not always the case, and some will ceaselessly follow the Spiritualist repeating their request or demands until they are either brought under the control of the Spiritualist or the deed is done. If the item of their request in honored, in almost every case the spirit will become docile and even helpful, freed from the binding drive they once knew.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The essence of the Undone is concentrated around the emotions and memories tied to the incomplete aspects of their lives. This ethereal manifestation is what gives them their distinctive appearance and allows them to interact with the spiritual realm. While the Undone lack physical bodies, they may have a focal point within their spectral form that represents the essence of their unfinished business. This focal point could be a symbol or representation of the item, person, or event that keeps them tethered to the material plane. When communicating with a Spiritualist, they might emphasize or draw attention to this aspect, making it clear what they seek resolution for.
Ecology and Habitats
- Spiritual Realm Habitat: The Undone primarily inhabit the ethereal landscapes of the spiritual realm, a plane that exists parallel to the physical world. This realm is not bound by the laws of physics and is shaped by the collective consciousness of the departed. It may feature surreal landscapes, reflective of the emotions and memories of those who dwell within it. Ephemeral mists, ghostly echoes, and luminescent wisps characterize this ethereal habitat, creating an otherworldly environment for the Undone.
- Temporal Anchors: Temporal anchors are points of connection between the spiritual and physical realms. These anchors are often tied to the locations or objects significant to the Undone during their lifetime. The Undone are bound to these anchors, and it is from these points that they draw the energy needed to maintain their spectral existence. The anchors serve as a link to the unfinished business that keeps them from moving on, and disrupting or resolving these connections is crucial for their spiritual liberation.
- Crossing Over: The process of Crossing Over refers to the transient movement of spirits between the spiritual and physical realms. Undone spirits can traverse these realms to interact with the living or to seek resolution for their incomplete matters. Crossing Over is often facilitated by rituals, intense emotions, or the presence of a Spiritualist attuned to the spiritual energies. It is during these crossings that the Undone may become more apparent and communicative to the living.
- Interactions with the Living: The Undone have the ability to influence the physical world, especially when near their temporal anchors or during moments of heightened spiritual activity. They may subtly manipulate objects, create eerie phenomena, or attempt to communicate through dreams and visions. When in the presence of a Spiritualist who can perceive them, the Undone become more overt in their interactions, beseeching assistance to complete their unfinished business. The living, unaware of the spiritual realm, might interpret these interactions as supernatural occurrences or hauntings.
- Haunting Grounds: Haunting grounds are specific locations where the Undone are more concentrated and active. These grounds are often linked to the unresolved issues that bind them. Abandoned houses, locations of significant events, or personal spaces connected to their unfulfilled desires become haunting grounds. The Undone may become more persistent and visible in these areas, making it easier for Spiritualists or those attuned to the supernatural to perceive their presence and understand their plight. Resolving the issues tied to these haunting grounds is crucial for bringing peace to the Undone and restoring balance to the spiritual realm.
Behaviour
The Undone are driven by an intense and hyper-focused desire to resolve the specific issue that binds them to the spiritual realm. This fixation dominates their consciousness, compelling them to seek assistance from the living, especially those with the ability to communicate with spirits. When aware of the presence of a Spiritualist or someone capable of perceiving them, the Undone become persistent communicators. They may beseech or demand assistance, attempting to convey the urgency and importance of their unfinished business. This communication can range from subtle signs and symbolic gestures to more overt attempts at contact.
In their desperation to resolve their issues, some Undone may become more forceful in their interactions with the living. They may attempt to get attention through manifestations, disturbances, or even more direct and unsettling methods. This behavior is driven by their overwhelming need to convey the significance of their unresolved matters. Once their unfinished business is acknowledged and addressed, the Undone undergo a transformation. They become docile, and in many cases, even helpful. The intense drive that once dominated their existence gives way to a sense of peace and fulfillment. Resolving their issues allows them to find closure and move on from the haunting state.
The Undone often exhibit a strong attachment to specific locations or objects associated with their unresolved matters. These become their haunting grounds, and they may linger in these areas, waiting for an opportunity to interact with the living or draw attention to the source of their discontent. Some Undone may be relentless in their pursuit of resolution. They may ceaselessly follow a Spiritualist, repeating their requests or demands until the task is completed or until the Undone is brought under the control of the Spiritualist. In some cases, rituals or spiritual practices may be necessary to bind the Undone and prevent them from causing further disturbances.

Civilization and Culture
History
The Blight left behind a void, an emptiness in the spiritual tapestry that was once the afterlife. The souls of the departed, severed from their usual journey into the realms beyond, found themselves trapped in this desolate void. Stripped of their connection to the divine, this became the foundation for a new existence. Born from the shattered remnants of souls and the lingering echoes of past lives, the Residual Spirits emerged within the emptiness of the spiritual void. These spirits, initially formless and chaotic, took shape as they clung to the unresolved emotions and memories of their mortal existence. The Blight not only severed their connection to the afterlife but also left them with an insatiable yearning to resolve the issues that bound them to the mortal realm. The Undone, now bound to the temporal anchors that linked them to the living realm, found themselves in a state of temporal dislocation. Their existence was no longer linear, and they became sensitive to the ebb and flow of time. The Blight, which severed the connection to the afterlife, condemned them to a perpetual state of seeking resolution in the spiritual void.
As the Undone became aware of their ability to influence the living and communicate with those attuned to the spiritual realm, they sought out assistance to fulfill their unresolved desires. The living, unaware of the void left by the Blight, interpreted these interactions as hauntings or supernatural occurrences. Drawn to the locations and objects associated with their unfinished business, created haunting grounds in their quest for resolution. It became apparent that the only path to liberation for these spirits lay in the completion of the tasks that bound them to the material world. Once their desires were acknowledged and fulfilled, the Undone transformed into docile spirits, finding peace and release from the spiritual void that had become their existence.
