Caladan

The Planet of Caladan is mostly water with a temperate climate. There is a constant storm that rages over the water which occasionally makes landfall. These storms can last for weeks or months, leading to landslides. The main continent has little below sea level areas for water to pool so its naturally defensive of these rain storms. There are vast forests in the undeveloped areas, with valleys and hills everywhere else. 
Caladan was originally an Aslan hunting world. The owner of the world sold it to the Imperium to turn into a raw resource penal colony. As long as the planet produced raw minerals there was no intervention in other daily tasks. People served their sentences and settled on the world finding it to be rich of life and bountiful for farming. 
Duke Castor was granted the planet as Barony after reaching the rank of Admiral in the Imperial Navy. He shortly discovered after that the planet had a massive durasteel mine which made the planet have immense value. 
Currently the Planet is listed officially as independent since the Imperium did not want to associate with the world. The Landsraad of the Imperium wants to lay claim to the world. The Former Aslan owner also claims rights as this was formerly theirs. There are many other interested parties because the vast wealth the planet produces. Lastly, there is an independence faction, the CLA (Caladan Liberation Army) who wants to see the planet rule as a democracy and stay independent from all sides and be a beacon for rejected people.
