Chapter 3 Recruit a Dwarf
General Summary
Once R&R was over the party reported back to Officer Snodgrain for their next assignment. Upon doing so, the party was told to make their way to Pangation and then into the mountains of the Great Central Range to find the dwarf stronghold. Once there they were to request the dwarven king to send a representative to Caesion for a meeting with President Penry.
The next morning Force Patrol once again left at daybreak heading toward Tocia. It was a clear and sunny day which passed uneventfully until they only a couple of hours out. It was then that they spotted a giant constrictor snake sunning itself in the middle of the road they were traveling on. Seeing an opportunity for a big meal and snake skin they could sell they killed the snake. They wasted no time getting to Tocia, finding a butcher and a leatherworker was short work and the made their way to the Inn of the Lonely Wolf. A place known for its low prices and tasty food and friendly staff especially the barmaid Nerys Brickell.
After asking around for directions, the patrol decided that by leaving the main road, the Caesion Way, they could shave days off their travel time by the Ecasa Trail. So, they headed to the Abbey in Ecasa famed for the wine it produces. Arriving late in the day the Head Abbott offered them food and a bed for the night.
The Patrol Force awoke, once again, to a clear and sunny day there had been no change in the weather since autumn began. Before leaving the Abbey, thinking to make a good impression with the Dwarven King. the patrol purchased a small keg of wine upon receiving the keg they left for a two-day trip to Pangation.
During their travels that day the patrol made their way along the base of the mountains. While meandering through the grassland beneath the mountains they spotted a large bird-like creature flying overhead. While they watched one of the members thought they saw a man riding on the creatures back. Eventually, the creature flew on toward the mountains leaving them wondering what they had really seen.
As evening approached, the patrol came across a small copse of trees and decided to make camp for the night. During the night, Merric hearing the sounds of a yipping pack of hyenas just outside their camp and as the sun came up, they caught sight of something resembling tiger moving thru the grass but they could not track its path. While searching the found the carcass of mostly eaten antelope likely what the hyenas were eating during the night.
Once they broke camp, they continued onto Pangation without further incident. When they entered the town, it was apparent that plans were in the works for a celebration of some kind. After asking around they were informed that tomorrow was to be the swearing in of a new Mayor and that Bemed Woldgrip a dwarf and previous mayor would be returning home to visit his homeland.
Not really knowing where to find the dwarf Bemed the group decided renting a room from Gesila Morrows owner of The Married Pea Inn. It was Gesila that informed them that Bemed would be at the morrow’s celebration of the Mayor’s transition.
The next day the patrol joined the celebrants outside where merchants were setting up booths for food and drink during the upcoming party. At noon the governmental transition went off without a hitch and the party managed to catch Bemed Woldgrip as he was leaving to collect his pack for the travel to the dwarf homeland. They informed Bemed of their purpose and were told that the king would not be too happy about strangers coming into his home and that he would take the message to the king personally. With that settled Bemed told the patrol to wait in town and to expect a response in three days’ time. Being a bit stretched for coin and aware that a beach existed just outside of port docks. They set up a camp on the beach outside of town away from the docks and near the forest.
Their stay on the beach was comfortable as the weather in Pangation is warmer than it was in Caesion. Ren for one enjoyed the balmy temperatures and was mesmerized by the formation of water spouts floating offshore for two days. The group fished for their meals and were having a good ole time until the evening of the second day. That evening while they were preparing dinner, they heard a crashing noise coming from the forest. All of a sudden, a creature as big as a house and looking like it was nothing but mouth came shambling toward their camp. Scared for their lives the group ran toward the docks shouting their alarm. Fishermen on the dock shouted for the town guard which quickly assembled to stand their ground against the beast. Quickly, the beast grabbed up on of those guards and dashed him to the ground killing him. Unbeknownst to anyone, Bemed had returned to town and hearing the commotion ran to the docks. Seeing the beast Bemed in his deep dwarven voice shouted, “Make a path”. And moving to the front of the guard Bemed took up a position between the guard and the beast and began moving his hands in what appeared to be some sort of ritual and uttering a command “Begone” causing the creature to turn to dust at his feet. Bemed immediately went to the fallen guard, placed his hand on the guard’s head and offering a prayer caused the guard to return to life.
Afterwards, Bemed informed everyone that he would be returning with the patrol to Caesion as a representative of the Dwarven King. As a reward for saving the town from that evil creature the townspeople put the patrol up for the night at the inn.
