Red Creeper

Written by Hagnon

The Red Creeper is an invasive carnivorous plant of unknown origin. It exists only in the area of the Central Mountains, near the base of the Dragon Glacier located in Akkalion. The Red Creeper gets its name from the blood red vines that spread across the terrain and wraps around the bottom half of tree trunks it encounters. As time extends between feedings the Red Creeper’s look changes color blending in color to local plant life. The Red Creeper lives off the blood of any animal it can entrap in its vines and shoots.

The Red Creeper is a mutated of a local grapevine created by mishap when beings from another world landed on Calandyrion and began experimenting with local plant life it could replenish its food sources with. At first the mutation created looked promising but a radiation event within their ship caused further mutations to plant life that were being experimented upon. The mutations allowed this plant to become carnivorous while other plants became sentient.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Red Creeper has a blood red vine with few black leaves and sharp needlelike thorns. These Red Creeper’s thorns are hollow which allows the uptake of blood from any creature it captures.

Biological Traits

The Red Creeper is a mutated of a local grapevine created by mishap when beings from another world landed on Calandyrion and began experimenting with local plant life it could replenish its food sources with. At first the mutation created looked promising but a radiation event within their ship caused further mutations to plant life that were being experimented upon. The mutations allowed this plant to become carnivorous while other plants became sentient.

Genetics and Reproduction

Red Creeper exclusively reproduces asexually by way of shoots sent off by the parent plant. Almost every shoot that touches soil will quickly root itself and break off from the parent plant.

Growth Rate & Stages

Red Creeper grows quickly reaching lengths of 10 feet or more before sending out shoots. When temperatures dip below 30 degrees it drops its leaves until temperatures rise above 40 degrees again.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Red Creeper flourishes when it can capture one small creature per week. Capture of a large creature will satiate it for a longer period and encourage it to reproduce.
