Lantana

Tucked into the Bay of Volkura, perched on the central coast is the trade city of Lantana; the trade hub for the Kingdom.

The Bazzar

Bright banners adorn the stalls that line the dock-side bazzar, and all variety of goods can be found there. Merchants hawk their wares at the top of their lungs, using a variety of languages common to the city, such as Elvish, Gnomish and Halfling. As one leaves the docks into the bazzar proper, the array of scents and sounds is almost overwhelming. From the spiced meat of the Western Isles, to the earthy scent of cheeses from the Avoncarres Archipelago to the south, there is a flavor to excite every tastebud.   As one walks down the street, the dulcet, airy tones of Elven music from the street performer on the harp are drowned out by the sharp sounds of a gnomish street band on their metal drums and horns from within a nearby tavern. Children run about from stall to stall, passing messages from spouses or playing games of Catch the Dragon or Hunter on the Plains.   The stalls in the bazzar rotate often. What is found in winter will never be found in summer, though many merchants make a habit of returning each year.

The City

Leaving the Bazzar into the city proper, one finds established merchants. Gnomish tinkerers sell clockwork toys to children, while Elven wood-workers create instruments, furniture and games. One can also find weapon merchants, or get a bespoke piece of armor made for themselves. The poorer quarter of the city is home to the local branch of The Innocent. The taverns in the poor quarter tend to serve dark ales and whiskey, and are frequented by Dwarves.

The Bay of Merchants

Merchant ships with expensive and rare wares berth in the middle of the bay where, for a fee, small boats take customers out to sample wares. A floating dock serves as a central platform for customers to get ferried between each ship. Guard presence is heavy, and there has never been an instance of successful theft from the Bay of Merchants.

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse was the first automated lighthouse built in Caldara. It is a Greylock invention that ignites at dusk and extinguishes itself at night. Many travellers to the city pay a small fee to watch the machine go through it's motions each night.

Demographics

The main population of Lantana are humans. Gnomes and elves own and run a moderate range of permanent shops, and there are a few establishments owned by halflings. There are no dwarf owned businesses in the city, though the forge employs dwarves and claims to sell authentic dwarven armor, though the metals are cheap and not of a true dwarven quality.   Althought not a rule, in the warmer months, there tend to be more westerners in port and more southerners during the colder months.

Government

The city of Lantana is the capital of the Duchy of Ketrela, which encompasses the Ketrela Peninsula. The Bay of Volkura is technically part of the Duchy and the Duke is charged with keeping the King's peace within the waters.

Guilds and Factions

There are five main guilds that control the city.   The Craftsmen, The Brewers, The Shipwrights, The Tinkers and The Merchants.
