CS-12 (Cybersystems Model 12)
In modern times there is hardly anyone who does not have direct access to the GRID. The best method for this is a dataport, which is implanted directly into the skull. The current leading model is the CS-12 from Cybersoft, an almost invisible dataport with wireless functions.
The first model in the range was launched in 2005 and since then the hardware has been continuously improved. The CS-12 is the 12th generation of the popular devices and a kind of starter drug for the Netrunner of tomorrow.
Significance
Hundreds of these data ports are implanted every day, so the procedure is now considered routine. Usually, the operation is performed minimally invasive under a short-term anaesthetic. After the operation, the patient should rest for about two weeks, after which the system is completely healed and can be tested, initially in a secure data environment.
In a technical age like this, a data jack is essential for many professions, so not only Netrunner has it, but also Johnny Normal, the company worker next door.

What sort of security measures are necessary to prevent someone's port from being hacked in any way? And what are the effects of being hacked?
First things first: Thanks for your like and your comment. There are a bunch of security measures, including simply installing a better firewall within the firmware, run an encoder/decoder and things like that. Being hacked would be a problem because the enemy hacker could simply deactivate your hardware or load a virus into your hardware, which will make it unfunctional

Considering that that hardware is installed into you, that sounds very dangerous. Is it possible to have someone's perceptions overridden in this way?
No, it's just possible to make the data port malfunction. But Hacking is a real danger.
