Olgot

Brown canines who believe that only kindness can get them a place in the afterlife.   Their definition of "kindness" might be a bit different than Starfleet's.   A dog-like species that walks on all fours for the most part. Picture big ears, lots of luxurious fur, rather like a golden retriever but they come in a bunch of different colors. Less clothes and cloth, more symbols of rank. The translator works overtime.   They do have opposable thumbs, albeit small ones. Operate on a trade economy that would adapt well to Federation lack of money. Buildings are usually shorter and lower to the ground, furniture is carved from hard materials or else heaps of fluffy things. Made for curling up on, less setting.   Noted for their kindness. Developed warp drive during the Dominion War, got first contact, but second contact has had to wait until recently.   Have fantastic work ethic. They euthanize the sick and weak in their society, and it's not until introduction to a larger galaxy with disability aids and better medical practices that they realized that perhaps this isn't the best and people have sacrificed their loved ones for nothing.   They have started pulling back on those practices, but it's still ingrained in their culture and it comes out more during a crisis with limited resources.   Names are palindromes.   They have a kind of Confucian text full of sayings how to live, and it's definitely been translated wrong through the years. People who attempt to preserve life have been thought to be unnatural, but there's already been some questioning. Especially since even within this doctrine there's people who they try a teensy bit harder to save, who happen to be in the upper echelon of society.   It became that the only way to get to the good afterlife was either to make sure you were always kind, or else you died in an "act of mercy". Kinda like Valhalla.   Death Culture: They have a lot of burial traditions and things that you do once someone dies. Mostly a big party to celebrate their passing into a better sphere. The burials are primarily cremation or other forms of destruction since the body doesn't matter anymore. Kindness allows for grieving for exactly one year and then kindness also demands that you stop bringing people down.   Interestingly, suicide is taboo. Someone else has to be involved. Sometimes people will attribute that they helped after the fact to make someone more honorable. Or that the person had a secret disability or something.   Kindness: But beyond these weird rules, they do genuinely try to be kind and helpful and empathetic. And it's not usually so regimented. Just around death.
