When the Gods departed this plane, they did not leave the mortal races of the world alone to fend off the forces of darkness. While the Elementals, are tasked with keeping the world spinning, Angels are tasked policing the magic holding it together.

Unknown. Accounts from ancient texts depict Angels in flight and cities in the clouds.

Civilization and Culture

History

The original first children of the Gods, Angels were content with carrying out the will of their lords and ladies. They nurtured and orchestrated the young Earth, placing plant and animal where they would thrive most. The virgin world blossomed with life
The Gods, not satisfied with their eden, began creating new forms of life; life with minds of their own, with souls, destinies, and the ability to access the arcane. Angels were left aside as the Gods reared their new prized creation and built magnificent works with them. All seemed idyllic, until the Void. After the great battles, of which Angels did not take part, the Void lost and retreated. The Gods departed after the Void and left the Elementals in charge.
The Angels were left behind too. Desperate for a purpose in the evolving world, they cried out at their departing fathers and mothers. One, whose name is unknown to mortals, spoke to her children tasking them to not interfere with the lives of second creation, but to be the watchmen for the only thing not in the keeping of the Elementals: Arcane Magic. For Angels are the most powerful embodiments of magical power. They crafted the original laws for magic and its place among life.
For ages, life tapped into the arcane and the Angels watched, and since no mortal had come close to divining the foundations and machinations of magic, the Angels are content to remain clustered in their high towers and unseen by mortal life.
