Larnko

Larnko is a hardwood that is believed to be magical, although the specifics about this magic often vary from place to place. The wood varies in color from dark red to dark purple.

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

The leaves, roots, and sap of the tree have medicinal value, healing, and relieving both physical and mental diseases and symptoms when ingested. The wood itself is poisonous when ingested. Despite this, it is believed to also have healing properties and is often made into trinkets and the like in hopes of arousing these properties. Because of its religious significance, homemade trinkets are illegal in countries like Isendree and Corbic and such things can only be purchased from the church.

Geology & Geography

Larnko can be found in pockets across Famgia and Tarna, but most densely on the western peninsula of Famgia and the eastern end of Tarna. It cannot be found in all of the southeastern area of Tarna and the southern areas of Famgia.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Who can use larnko and what it can be used for varies from country to country and in some cases even village to village. In very religious countries like Isendree larnko can only be used by the church and a person outside of the church who cuts down or reuses even a little bit of it can be fined. On the other hand in Miradrell anyone may use larnko, but villages are allowed to make restrictions about its use.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Larnko is used mainly for religious purposes and in some places, it is said that all larnko belongs to the church. Although this belief is untrue, several countries do ban commoners, merchants, and even some nobles from using it. Many small larnko tokens, rosaries, amulets, talismans, and other small religious items can be found in every household across the southern coast of Famgia.
