Come with Me - Chxrlette

On the day heaven tried to take my soul You came down like in fairytales of old I said "open your white wings for me" And you said "close your eyes and just believe"
Serena would likely not have gotten very far without the opportunity this group gave to her. Whether or not she could admit it, they saved her life. Openly she would say that she is traveling to continue her pilgrimage and that it is the will of the gods that she continues, but in her heart, she doesn’t want to return no matter how important it is that she does.   I really like the idea that “close your eyes and believe” is part of the sales pitch Kingston gave to her.
You're made of darkness and fire, my friend I think the world may be coming to an end But when heaven and hell do collide Know that I'll always be there by your side   You know I'd follow you through hell and fight off demons as well You beat your wings and cast a spell, I'll run away with you
I see this as a conversation between Serena and Sly. She is not just forgiving him for his past, but she is reassuring him that she never hated him or blamed him. She loves him and she doesn’t care if he’s not perfect, she accepts him for all of it. Sailor, Thief, broken child, he’s not one of those things, he's all of them.
And I said Hallelujah, running to you They won't find us, you and I can watch the stars fall from the sky All clothed in white, my shard of light Let's go together, we'll be free The world ends eventually, so come with me
Continuing with the Sly theme, This section is very much Serena happily staying with him. ‘They won’t find us’ is referring to the other clerics and Serena trying to keep from going back to the monastery. If he could leave and live a successful life so could she.   She is experiencing wonders on this adventure that she could have never imagined before.
Take my hand and we'll face the end of time Let's take a stand against fate's design I said I can't bear to see the end And you said close your eyes and count to ten
This segment reminds me of the cave incident in a non-literal sense. Between Serena and Tony trying to comfort each other despite going through a horrible encounter
And after six thousand years if the world disappears I'd fight angels and demons to find you, my dear I hear heavenly sounds in my head when you're near I'm alright now you're here   And I said Hallelujah, running to you We've escaped them, you and I can fly away and paint the sky All clothed in white, my shard of light Let's go together, now we're free The world ends eventually, so come with me
Serena is fully invested in this group. She doesn’t want to leave any of them despite the arguments and tensions. This is the closest thing to a family that she has ever actually known.   She will take all the bad with the good if it means she can stay the way she is right now forever.

"The Light and the Darkness", Serena's Playlist

Creature - Half Alive

This is like a cleric theme song at this point, but the thing that sticks out the most is the line “Even the depths of the night cannot blind me; When You guide me” for Serena, because of how important light is in her relationship with her faith.

"Soon" from Thumbelina (1994)

Serena is heavily inspired by Thumbelina, from her size to her personality, to her fresh view of life. Above all is the eagerness to have a grand adventure and a fairytale romance. This song is here to represent the times when she is most strongly missing T’ryss.

"Constellations" by The Oh Hellos & "Curses" by The Crane Wives

No specific lyrics, but this song feels like knowing your freedom and time are limited.

"The Moon Will Sing" by The Crane Wives

This song requires an extensive deep dive into individual lyrics, but on a top-level, this song is here to represent the initial melancholy thoughts Serena has regarding her importance in the world (she is a vessel for her god’s divinity) which will change as she experiences more of life and creates her own light.

"The Horror and the Wild" by The Amazing Devil

This was originally added just for the adventure-lust vibes, but now it heavily reminds me of the encounter within the cavern with the fiend.

"Going Home Again" by This Way to the Egress

Obligatory boat song

"Come with Me" by Chxrlotte

This song represents Serena’s overall feelings for her new, found family and the adventures that they are having.

"Sunlight" by Hozier

Very literal, but this is about Imetsa’s grace being like sunlight.

"Ribs" by The Crane Wives

This song represents Serena’s darker thoughts. Her inadequacies, the bad thoughts regarding her purpose and her order, that she pushes deep down.
“The dark doesn't frighten me I chose to close my eyes It is mine, it is mine The night doesn't frighten me I chose to let it thrive It is mine, it is mine”

"Thus Always to Tyrants" by The Oh Hellos

This song is here to represent Serena’s love and devotion for her goddess.

"Second Child, Restless Child" by The Oh Hellos

This song is for all the big changes that have happened in her life, but especially when she finally left the monastery.

"Only If For a Night" by Florence and the Machine

This is another track for Serena and T’ryss.

"For the First Time in Forever" by Frozen Soundtrack

Much like 'Soon', I have this song on the playlist to represent the 'I want' moments for Serena as well as her getting to finally leave the only world she knew and invite a million new experiences in.

"Who I'd Be from Shrek the Musical

Dreams of the life she could have if she had a choice in her destiny...

"Eyes Warm, Eyes Wide" by Lilli Furfaro

A song for going on an adventure when you’ve barely ever left your home and finding your place along the way.

"One Day I'll Fly Away" from Moulin Rouge (2001)

Serena’s inner Monologue whenever she was lonely.

"Everything's Alright" from Jesus Christ Superstar

A prayer of healing

"Wild Blue Yonder" by The Amazing Devil

This song is here because of the feeling of wanderlust it gives me. It also matches Serena’s confidence, despite the lyrics not really being literal for her.

"Lover's Desire" by Anais Mitchell

This feels like a song that Serena may have heard somewhere and it is now her favorite.

"Flowers" from Hadestown

The mood of Serena trying to remember anything before the Monastery and it coming up mostly blank.

"Without You" by Evynne Hollens

When Serena pictures life without her goddess.

"Touch the Sky" by Evynne Hollens

This is Serena’s inner monologue when traveling.

"Stay Positive" by Sushi Soucy

As the title suggests, this is for all the times that Serena stays positive.
