Buggy Beetle
The Buggy Beetle is one of the more exotic and odd forms of awareness extending drugs as its effects are reached by the consumption of a whole Buggy Beetle, about the size of a grown mans large toe. The beetles effects are popular among the younger nobility, as they consume them in tests of bravery, as entry ceremonies to circles of trusted friends or just simply for the fun of it. But what starts as fun often ends with more than just a laugh.
The effects of these beetles, which have spread across the mainlands after riding among ships from the new continents towards them as blind passengers, can vary greatly, but most experiences share a few base similarities.
After consuming a beetles worth of either powdered Buggy Beetle or,
well, a whole live Beetle, which some swear enhance the hallucinary effects greatly, ones body starts itching from the tows up to the top of ones head.
This part of the effects is quickly superceeded by an incredible unreast and desire to express whatever one might be thinking at the time to whoever may be the closest, regardless of any social apprehensions or restrictions. Following that, the hallucinations start, as one looses touch with reality. At this point in time, many people describe it as if they were floating among a sea of "...warm, slightly moving beetles, embracing all that we are and all that we have been...". This is the longest phase, lasting upwards of seven hours and a minimum of three. The perception of time is extended and those who wake up out of this phase feel a strong need to bond with their compatriots, as the depressive phase starts.
What follows is a phase during which consumers describe themselves as being clear minded and incredibly focused. Those who look upon them from outwards however only see them staring into nothingness, incapable of forming anything apart from incoherent sentences and unable to stick with one topic of conversation at a time. This is the last phase, as the effects cling out and the consumers are overcome with the immediate need to empty their bowels.
