Session Ten: Diving Under and Heading Home

General Summary

The session begins at dawn and, before the various party members leave their rented rooms, some of them discuss the recent events they have experienced in and around the village of Bent Oak. After clarifying their perceptions of these events, they reconvene with Lafayette in The Thicket Tavern's main room. Before traveling toward The Wailing Ruins, Lafayette says that he needs to pick up his wagon and pony from a stable just outside of the village. The party agrees to this, as they have a couple of items on their agenda to complete before leaving as well. Aislin wants to speak with the priestess Tabitha Thornton again. And, despite the potential for Great conflict, Eks wishes to question Templeton Blackstone about the attempted robbery the party encountered the night before.   The party walks over two The Bazaar, the store owned by Templeton Blackstone, just as it is opening for the day. There are no other customers present. Eks is the last to enter and locks the door behind him. He proceeds to interrogate Templeton about the robbery. Templeton denies any involvement, tensions mount, and eventually Eks is able to intimidate Templeton to the point to which he agrees to let the party take any items from the store that they wish. Because the evidence supporting the notion that Templeton was involved with the robbery, none of the party stop Eks and agree that Templeton at this treatment coming to him.   Soon after the stands moment, Aislin speaks with Tabatha Thorton at the temple. Despite And wanting to be very helpful, Tabitha has very little to add to what she had already told the party.   As they leave town, the party stops by Dexter's Stables where LaFayette's wagon and pony, Pearl, are secured. Unhappy with her grooming, LaFayette casts a spell that makes her look perfectly groom, including several pink bows in her mane. Eks buys a pony that he names Phil. The party then make their way out of the village but did not get very far before they hear a voice calling for them from behind. A deer-like humanoid named Jimison Kayro asks if they will take him with them to Castia; the party agrees. Shortly before they arrive at the ruins, the party encounters a second creature. Much to their surprise, this time they have run into 739, the construct that traveled with them to the Feyrealm but was lost in the crash of the Starshine Express.
The group continues on toward the ruins, LaFayette drops a bombshell on them: the ruins are at the bottom of Allblossom Lake. According to the guide, The Wailing Ruins were built around a natural portal between the Feywild and several other worlds. Ages ago a cult built these ruins and worshiped this portal, convinced it was a deity. My mother said that there was nothing divine about it at all. It’s simply a natural occurrence. Probably formed with all of creation. The cult's practices started offending the authorities in Rustleaf. The Archdruid of Summer and the Seelie Court rooted out all of the cultist and, in one final battle at the ruins, destroyed most of them. Then the buried the entire thing under water. The Archdruid's name was Lassus Allblosom; the lake was named after him. After regaling the party with these details, LaFayette reassures them that there won't be an issues as he can help them with breathing underwater.   Once they reach the lake, LaFayette casts a water breathing spell on each of them - including Eks' new pony. With this newfound ability, albeit temporary, the party dives into the murky waters of the lake and head toward the ruins. Before they make it the opening of the ruins, they encounter a Seetangeist. The creature is a necrotic mass of bloated and rotting fish and mamal aquatic life. They fend off the attack and enter the ruins, where they initially come up a large chamber full of bones and random items. A search of the room results in them finding everready of coins and other odds and ends among the bones. Most interestingly, they find what appears to be leather ball with red stitching and some sort of canteen with writing on it that Eks' reads through the use of his magic ring. Al recognizes these items and hints that they are from where he's from. When questioned about this, he says that is a conversation for another day.   While searching for the convergence, the party encounters several more rooms in the ruins, where they find an armory and a room with a significant amount of loot. Unknown to the rest of the party, Al's finger was "pricked" when he was picking a lock on one of the doors. Additionally, Al discovers some cages with words written on them in his mother tongue, which isn't native to Castia. Eventually, the group locates what's been called a portal, shift, and convergence: the doorway home to Castia. Each member of the party, as well as 739, Jimison, and Eks' new pony, enter the portal and are instantly transported back to Vespertine Tower, where they first spoke with Melisande Vespertine. Much to their surprise, they find that the tower and the gated neighborhood of Calico Skies lies in ruins. In the distance, the see that Tyranx has taken up residence in the tallest tower known as the Gilded Spires.
