Almaz
A white crystal that traces patterns across Castores. Though twinkling from the sun, mined and properly used, it can be used as a weapon and so much more.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Almaz is a grey-white stone
Physical & Chemical Properties
Almaz is notable for its ability to trap and store light like a battery. Not a perfect prison, it typically glows as its stored light leaks out.
Geology & Geography
Almaz can be found as thin veins weaving their way across most stone surfaces on Castores. It is particularly common around the Broken Sea, as well as the Kynpeaks of Jhanin.
Origin & Source
Almaz would seem trace its origin to the now-extinct Almazyn. Though the actual origins of either is unknown.
History & Usage
History
Almaz was once a cornerstone of civilization upon Castores. For the Dwarves, Giants, and eventually the Kyn, their society used Almaz to harness light similarity to how Earth uses electricity. Of course, none knew the secrets of Almaz more than the Almazyn, who also used it to form barriers and and defy gravity.
There is no more notable usage of Almaz than the great Lightcraft cannon that defeated the World Breaker.
Since then however, the knowledge of Lightcraft, and consequentially, Almaz, has faded from history. Now it is reduced to little more than a glowing rock used for lighting. Still, crumbling transmission powers and light collectors still dot the wastes.
Discovery
None would dispute the Almazyn were the first discoverers of Almaz. Whether the other races learnt of it from them, or developed Lightcraft technologies themselves, is unknown.
Type
