Nalla Pilakai
The Nalla Pilakai, otherwise known as the Shadowborne, are not a true race in the conventional sense, but are considered the cursed children of Belasko.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
Nalla Pilakai resemble other mortal races, most commonly humans, though often of lighter build with sharper features. What separates them is their typically pitch-black, or dark grey, skin. Their hair and eyes similarly are typically dark, though occasionally they will have white hair and or eyes. The Shadowborne experience discomfort in sunlight, often covering themselves in heavy clothing to protect themselves from it.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Nalla Pilakai across Castores distrust other races, as others distrust them. Due to their small, isolated, close-nit nature, the exact nature of their cultures tend to vary.
They are particularly common in Dath, though many of their population consist of those who have fled from Xhalandar.
History
The Nalla Pilakai are the children of the childless god. Overcome with his own vanity, Belasko missed the opportunity to sire his own race of mortals. As such, in his jealousy, he takes the children of the other deities.
To the peoples of Castores, the Nalla Pilakai are a divine curse, children of ill omen believed to be born due to excessive bouts of greed. Bringing shame to their parents, and hated by their communities, many are either killed or exiled to the wastes. Though many perish, others become hermits or form small communities of other Nalla Pilakai. As any child of shadow will sire more of their ilk, the strongest communities survive into small tribes that try to hide against the world.
Nalla Pilakai seem to mostly commonly be born of Humans. This is possibly due to not having a protective parent deity.
