Shadowlord

A Shadowlord, Avatar of Belasko, Champion of the Unwanted, is a title given to Nalla Pilakai warlords in times of violent upheaval by the normally reclusive race.

History

The first Shadowlord rose during the First Winter in Dath. Seen as a retributive force against those who had defiled the planet, he was a major contributor to driving much of the Human race out of former Dathenay.   Though believed to have been slain, another Shadowlord emerged in the First Cycle in Jhanin, claiming to be the same one from Dath. He ruled the Empire of Shadows until his defeat, upon which his empire disappeared like shadows before the sun.   A third Shadowlord appeared in Bael Archas during the early Second Cycle, this time taking the position of a Demon Lord. This one too claimed to be the same one, though was defeated by Garyon. Shortly after, a Shadowlord arose in Dath once again and lead a bloody invasion of Xhalandar.   Atrias the Shadowlord, a warlord in Dath, also claimed the title during the Third Winter, though given his human heritage he seems to have merely co-opted the title due to its cultural significance in the region.   Ahmed Thrakul fought a Nalla Pilakai claiming to be the fourth Shadowlord during the conquest of western Jhanin. This Shadowlord was slain by a group of Mahjur assassins known as the Black Sand. Shortly after the founding of the Achaemenid Empire, a Shadowlord once again appeared in the Exiled Lands.

Cultural Significance

Among the Nalla Pilakai, the coming of a Shadowlord is a sign of great change, excitement, and revenge against the people who cast them out for the uncontrollable conditions of their birth.   Among the people of Jhanin and Xhalandar the appearance of a Shadowlord is a time of fear and chaos, for while most Shadowlords do no last long, they leave bloody everlasting marks upon history.
