A Castrovel Adventure: Part 5, Chapter 34

~O'mei Vaeol-Ile o'zayae hoeae o'remna amya kolamya mi amya eisalaea.~ (In which Lady Vaeol is forced to choose between loyalty to her city and loyalty to her maidenmate.)

From the Daylog of Vaeol-Zheieveil Yaranevae be’Son
6. Koelae, 24,547 - 9th Month in Qabarat   Today after drill, we got a worldbode, telling that Her Highness Lady Sheneal forelooked our watch at the Embassy. This bid misgave odd, since wontfully we await Her Highness’s idleness unless some weighty reason. Taiase, Istae, and I readied in the Embassy’s forehall, along with the worthies, guests, and beseechers, ere noonmeal’s end. Kaure, Remaue, and Nelehi needfully waited with, and along came Oshis, Less, and Hanos, who maybe forewared a grimmer business than wontsome.   Right after Lady Sheneal came from noonmeal, her wandbearer bade us meet. She inled us to the ambassador’s sunderroom, where Her Highness greeted us. Then she bade the wandbearer leave and outkeep all thanes and grooms. We warily waited while Lady Sheneal gathered will, as if to deal with an evil.   Then Her Highness told she had again spoken with Qabarat’s Outland Alderwife, who had boded the Matronhood’s will toward the Motorae Eve crowdstrife we had witnessed. In a word, the city wished the evil ended swiftly. To that end, the ten Korasha men we had cursed and bound should be banned and sent to Valmaeana. There they may thew the war, and if they outlive, may there find whatever livelihood they can. The two Damaya wives should also go, with right to come home after their firdtide’s end. In deal, none should outspeak bewrayal against us or our housemates, neither from the man Oshis and I had smitten (who still lay under wounded mind) nor for any share taken in a lawless showmarch. Lady Sheneal then gazed at us three, each in trend. ~Dei milimya-ruaelise?~ - “Do you yaysay?” she asked sternly.   Against Her Highness’s strongly hinted wish, we three yaysaid not.Istae openly outspoke this oddness. Taiase asked why no sake-trial should be held. Lady Sheneal answered the Matronhood had deemed it against the city’s welfare. I asked what answer Semuane may give to this misdeed, since she, unlike us, is homeborn Qabarate’, and would surely have strong thought. Lady Sheneal answered that our maidenlove’s elders would doubtlessly teach the good behavior of listening to the matrons’ will, and that if she loved her livelihood, she would heed.   Lady Sheneal then bemarked this thing was not her choice. ~Hizeli o di maeavame o kolama-la,~ - “Remind that we do not belong to their city,” she beread, and added that, as Qabarat’s guests, we need not like this doom. Outshamedly I asked how I must tell Kaure my maidenmate that she is withheld right and fairness, only I had misforgotten her Highness's earlier word that I must bid her listfulness, which is the same ill doom all ~Rahyalthalma~ - Thwartkind - are bequeathed. Lady Sheneal tightly acknowledged, but answered I could not help further by withstanding.   I threatened I could call ~Dirosaul~ - guestright - and speak straight to the Matronhood. Lady Sheneal’s eyes almost popped from head, and even Istae my sister-outrider's antennae curled. Her Highness chided this was not an outrider’s elflove-tale where I could shamingly dare the whole city. I asked back whatever I had to lose trying. She answered that, if I so tried, she would forswear me, which made my breath halt. I warned she would answer to my mother if she so did. ~Vi-romi Maeilerru,~ - “Let your Lady-Mother to me,” she answered (which even though I angered, I must worship her boldness). More shamelessly I asked what choice else outstayed but honor. ~O’stimi hoe siyae. O’romi ruassaea-ruaelise,~ - “You always have a choice. You may go home,” answered Her Highness, and added that, to shun strife, Her Highness the High Matron would surely let me forget the Motorae Games.   Ere I could say further rashness, Taiase rose and instrode, saying Her Highness had given wonderfully much to reckon. ~Ollae-avyri,~ - “Well and wisely,” alet Lady Sheneal, and gave leave.   In the forehall waited our housemates, ingathering Kaure. My Korashe maidenmate’s sight shamed more than I could bear. I rushed beyond and fled to the street, with them afteryelling my bother. Almost I kept onward to the household. Yet wiser meekness overtook, and I slowed. Woefully I looked when Kaure took my arm. Then I gave her my son, knelt, and begged sorrow and would be bidden under her will. Then with Taiase and Istae we told the whole misdoom Lady Sheneal had outrailed, and how I had threatened to go straight before the matrons under guest-right. ~O’sae-sei omonya limif,~ I forespoke Kaure: “At your word I will speak sake.”   I so yearned for my maidenmate’s mindshare in that breathtide, but cowardly withheld under fear of wrath. Kaure held our son to her mighty breast while I dreaded the unreadable thoughts warring on her brow. At last: ~O’nae similya evolif,~ she said: “I must seek rede.” Then she handed back Aeosel and left. We watched her go through the street, heading to the Elf-Farthing, as we guessed.   Remaue stroked my hair, for once bereft of a wicked word. Before us our flagmen stood warily, trying to foresee a threat they could throw their Korasha thews against. Oshis looked at me wryly. I asked how he would beread, which he answered not. I then bespoke him as proud, whereunder surely he would behold us light an angry fire to thwart this doom. ~Heilavas~ - “Proud I am,” he nodded. Yet then he said that in my lifetime he had choked much pride. Ruthfully he added it is a mood that will grow wontful. I bowed to lay brow on his, and then let him carry our son home.   We found Semuane samely come, and looking right shameful. She betrusted Lady Sheneal’s foretell that her overreeves have bidden her to let the sake quell and do nothing more. This thing forelooms grimmer for her, since someday we will go home to Son while she will stay and outlive whatever strife we make. We shared the overstanding threat, and also Kaure’s fetch, whence when she may come we know not.   So now while I write this, I can merely dread how angry Kaure may be and that she may forgive. What will she have me do, and do I have the will to blood all my stallworth when I light this blaze?     7. Koelae, 24,547 - 9th Month in Qabarat   Today I have quit all moots and oughts, begging weariness. If my deed misgladdens Her Highness, I reck not, since she has already done much to misgladden us. Though it may seem a small misdeed, it betters my mood.   Kaure came not home until after duskmeal. She found me in the bower writing, whereat I halted, knelt, and took her hands. She hugged me fast and soothed my antennae. Then she told she led guests. At her beck, in came Hauronil and another Damaya-Elf, who, although I knew him not, looked oddly kith. I hugged Hauronil and greeted them both in my couthest Elvish. Kaure begreeted the newcomer as Riardon. My face must have hinted befuddleness, since she added: ~Shaelauras~ - “The Elfqueen,” at which I reminded his crownship riding the shieldhead on Motorae Eve.   Remaue hastened to fetch tea while we sat in a windroom overlooking the midyard. Kaure and Hauronil cutely held hands while I served. After Riardon drank, I bemarked the worship coming he bestowed our flag, and that we had not forelooked a meeting with his folk’s leader. Riardon bowed, although in share to hide shame. He answered leadership bestowed uneasily, since his kind foreyields not to leadership. Yet latter happendom (namely the crowdstrife) had behooved leadership, he outlaid, which owing to his rise, had befallen to him.   ~Iqovya-ruaelaf yaomara samaeantara ivilissara zirasra nilasra be kehaeuni,~ he spoke, switching to Qabarati: “We have your flag to thank for warding many of our fellows from the strife,” and bowed low. Then he shrove thought he would reckon us as friends, weighing what we had done with what he had heard, with nod to Kaure and Hauronil and their upcoming bridetide. I answered that if he deemed us friends, then we could not wish greater worship.   ~O’zeli-mi, leirya-yoruaelf,~ -” In this mind, I would ask a boon,” said Riardon. He understood we had yielded an outstanding forehap, since I threatened to bring sake straight to the Matronhood. He shrove this might become an inthrifty outlook and surely the city’s shametide, and frankly their folk might even get behoof. Yet he had found another thought. Then the elqueen begged sorrow and asmed us to bemind thought of a folk much misspoken and downtrodden, forsoothly behanging on the right folk misbrooking to uphold them. Then he asked us to understand how I, a Damaya wife, an outrider, and even a matron’s daughter, so upstanding for their downtrodden stead, even well-meaning, might therefore might unempower their folk in this feud.   ~O’eiesi evanave,~ - “I think I understand,” I said: ~O’nae qoanza area-sa,~ - “You must become your own champion.” Then I asked what he would have us do, whereat the elfqueen beseeched that we loosen this sake and let them find their own mightiness.   I wept while I reckoned a long breathtide. Hauronil knelt, took my hand, and beread that honor would forgive if by so aletting we help others reach honor. Thankfully I laughed. ~O’nae-yei leirya shyaelis~ - “Then you must give me a boon,” I answered slowly, and handed Riardon my son: ~Shyaeli allatherya hishya si-yothanassya,~ - “Bestow us an else forehap to uphold you.” Both Riardon and Hauronil grinningly yaysaid.   Another question festered. I asked what mind the Elves beheld in this thing. Riardon answered their inthrift lies only in the Elf-Farthing’s safeward, and although many Elves (nodding to Hauronil of his housemates) are friendly to their side, as a whole, the Elves reck this Lashunta business. Wryly we laughed.   When we ended, I reminded Hauronil and Riardon to reckon the boon my house may yield. Then I asked Kaure whether she had forethought her bridetide’s guests. She answered the Elfqueen may rightfully forelook a welcome-bode. Afterward, we told Taiase, Semuane, and Istae. Then we forsoothed we were quit of this thing. Ashamedly, we are relieved, which makes us doubt our worth. When Kaure took me in her arms, I could not help weeping, and then let her take me on her bosom while our son lay between. Today Remaue and I have benamed to spend with our beautiful, mighty Korasha maidenmate and so yield the worship she owns.
