Avian bestiary

Flightless - Void snowflakes

This small bird lives near cold islands. While they spend rains and nights in the borders of the islands, they are seen swimming in space during day, playing with each other or with a Giant is it might be nearby. They are seen making nests in the subnivean and making snow slides that they like to use to jump from islands to space.

Coastal

They are mainly seen in coastal towns that are centred on fishing, close to the coast and harbours. They are very friendly, especially if given food, and tend to travel in ships to get in the open sea and then fish next to the fishermen for their own food.

Mountain

They moult their plumage twice a year, once for winter, which shows their white plumage, and once for spring, showing a colourful plumage in males and a dull brown for females. They don't make their own nests but instead occupy old abandoned nests that they cover the entrances with mud and sticks, making entrances small enough to only them entering and leaving predators outside.

Marine

It's never been seen one of these birds close to coasts or islands, they are always seen in the middle of open waters. How they reproduce is still a mystery to discover. They are always seen flying, rarely seen floating in water while resting, and even more rarely, resting in ships.

Freshwater

They are immune to the hallucinogen blood of the krit and are often seen in rivers with the krit. They are curious birds that love playing around and splashing water everywhere. Some of them are seen with light necklaces given to them by the krit, and their close relationship with the krit allows them access to krit scales, which they use sometimes in their nests, who are found in between tall plants next to the river banks.

Grassland

These birds have long tails and short wings. They are mostly seen on the floor, walking around, or using big animals from the grasslands to travel around. They only fly around when they are scared or go to their nests, which they have on high trees.

Forest

They use their strong legs to hang from branches and swing from one to another, only using their wings in case they fall from the branches. The males' short tails have two long feathers, as long as their body, that end up in shiny strong colours.

Camouflaged

These small birds moult often during the year, changing their plumage colour to fit the colours of the leaves of the trees they live in. When hiding, these birds hang from branches and are very hard to differentiate from the leaves. During autumn, they make nests on the ground, surrounded by the colourful leaves and reproduce.

Predator

These big birds look similar to [Dull] but they stay to the ground, barely flying ever but sometimes found gliding at high velocity towards their prey. They have strong beaks and claws, and these with their size and ferocity allow them to be able to walk around (although it looks more like waddling) without fear of being attacked.

Prey

These birds are grown in captivity, grown to be thicker than the wild counterparts, as food for the [Pet]. They are venomous food towards people, but are a delicacy for [Pet]. While in the wild, they are also a common prey species for a lot of species and struggle to survive on their own.

Tall

They are usually find lying inside bushes and thick patches of tall grass, only seeing them when they get their head out to catch some flying insects. Their neck are longer than their body and tend to sleep by having their neck surrounding their bodies and then using their body as pillow.

Tiny

These little fellas are known for being seen sleeping in big flowers. They are very fast and colourful, living in flower fields and looking like a storm of dancing petals. They eat the insects that try eating their flowers, keeping their flowers' healthy and helping them pollinate.

Territorial

These birds are very territorial with their own species but they love spending time with [Bear], and even hibernate with them during winters. They make nests in the same caves where the [Bear] live and even use their hair to make their rock nests a bit more plushie.

Beak

This predator is known for its strange beak. The top of the beak splits in the end, leaving space for the bottom of the beak to grow upwards, which they use to stab people and cut the meat they hunt. To court females, mates stack pretty flowers in the spike of their beak.

Colourful

Usually, their dark plumage shines in a myriad of colours when under the light. A couple of weeks a year, the dark plumage of the males moult to show a rainbow of colours constantly, which they use to court females, who pick the males with stronger colours.

Dull

These vultures have dull brown plumage, similar to the colour of the earth of the places they live in. They are revered birds as it's believed they show the respects to the death before eating them and bury their familiars and friends under rocks.

Common

These small round birds plague the Skreori temple. They had made nests in the roofs of the temples and all efforts of driving them away have been useless, so the Dragsar has just accepted them to be there as long as they stay outside the interior of the temple.

Rare

These birds, who are only seen rarely in the [Desert], are known for lying in the floor and covering all themselves with sand to protect themselves from the dangerous temperatures of the desert. They make nests under the sand, which they sometimes share with other animals like small lizards.

Endangered

Wild specimens of them are barely seen anymore nowadays, most specimens of this species are grown in captivity in [Island town] and tried to teach that eating [Blueberry] is bad before releasing them, in hopes to stop them getting [Condition] that is leading them to death, as it forces them to eat a venomous (for them) berries.

Hunted

These birds have been used for hunting exercises for centuries. In the wild, they are very good at hiding; in captivity, they’ve been raised to be good at hiding and then running away, to make the hunting more exciting.

Hunter

These bird come from a group of [Hunted] that escaped captivity and went wild. They have evolved to be predator birds and enjoy hunting down people. They are sometimes used as representations for assassins as they pursue their victims or food from the shadows and kill them when they last expect it.

Mythical

This bird, believed to be a myth for the lack of sights, has insect-like wings, similar to a dragonfly, and its arms (which are wingless), are believed to be made of a wood-like material. Legends tell that its feathers can be used to make string that will immediately close wounds that have been stitched with it.

Extinct

The only reminds of these species are their preserved skeletons and written knowledge. It's still debated whether the hunting of them where the cause of their extintion or whether it simply helped reach it faster, as their numbers were already believed to be low and in the years before the last sight of them, the hunt had become illegal. They were hunted by their gorgeous feathers that were perfects to become writing plumes.

Domestic

These little birds are known for being common pets. Their small since and soft yet beautiful voice make them great companions for small houses. While most people opt to clip their wings, but there are strong initiatives to show the pet owners that these bird can be easily taught to not fly far away from their owner. They only sing or talk when asnwering other people or courting.

Scary

These giant birds are feared for they are known to grab cattle and fly away with them. In general, they are very peaceful, only attacking to hunt, but when their life is in danger or their offspring is in danger, they have been seen cutting skin and bone as if it was paper with their strong beaks and claws.

Cute

They have fluffy necks that look like they have a scarf around their neck. Their common colours are considered cute and so their baby-like singing. While they are in general considered cute, they are not allowed to be pets as they tend to have lots of plagues that don't affect them but do affect people.

Striped

The striped plumage of this bird helps it camouflage with the tree bark of the trees where they live. They are seen sometimes carving stripes on the tree bark to make it more like their plumage if the tree doesn't has a lot of stripes on its bark. They also like to carve holes in the bigger branch to make their nests in it.

Spotted

The back and wings of these brids are black spotted with white. Their bodies are green. In truth, their bodies are also black and white, but they lay down on moss that paints their bodies green, as well as the tip and interior of their beak.

Sky

These small blue birds have wings that are almost three time longer than them. They are known for being seen constantly flying, even sleeping in the air by using wind currents. The only time they are seen landing are in high places where they can jump off and then start flying. If one of them lands in the ground, they need to find a high place to be able to jump and fly, as their long wings hit the ground when trying to take off.

Land

These small round birds have short wings that don't support their weight to fly, making them flightless but allow them to glide short distances. Their beak end is wide, almost looking like a spoon, which they use to make borrows. It's common to see them sitting in holes they make while sunbathing.

(I knew I was forgetting to ask something) Did you use a keyword/prompt list for this or did you just write them as they went?
