Stubout 2024
Now that it's 2024, is the stub out sheet ready or still being worked on?
What is Stubout?
Stubout is an unofficial challenge run by me, Catoblepon, that's intended to help you get motivated to work on stubs and doing the dreaded editing. This challenge lasts the whole year.
It started last year, as a way of motivating people to do these things because most challenges we get from WorldAnvil end up not necessarily fitting a stub we already have so we kept creating more and more. Last year I said this would be a test, to see if it worked, and people immediately showed love to this idea and helped each other with this challenge!
The challenge itself is just to write. I provide a spreadsheet that you can use to track what you've been doing (such as written words, and written articles). This spreadsheet has changed quite a bit since last year but the core is the same, you end up tracking how many articles you've written/edited, and how many stubs you have spawned while doing them.
The challenge has no winners or prizes, but people really enjoy seeing the fake badges on the second tab of the spreadsheet appear as they fulfil the requirements! These badges are fairly easy to obtain, except one, and are intended to help you get a bit extra motivation to work.
The last thing this spreadsheet has, it's that it shows a line graph showing ups and downs of the year as you grow or cull the stubs in your worlds.
To join the spreadsheet, simply add your name and information on the spreadsheet below on a row that's not claimed. The second tab, named "Goals", is fully automatic and you have to touch nothing there. In the main tab, named "Info", only fill up the columns:
- "Initial Stubs + articles to edit".- "Initial wordcount" and "Initial article count" from January only.- "Written / edited", "Final wordcount", and "Final article count" of all the months. If anything breaks in the spreadsheet, PLEASE don't try to fix it yourself without letting me know. And, I much rather fix it myself.
The column "Actual Stubs" is fully automatic and will calculate how many articles to write or edit are left after the work you've added so far this year. So "Initial Stubs + articles to edit" is the original number, the one you start the year with, and the "Actual Stubs" is the updated number of today for you!
There's more?
For people joining in my discord server we have an extra spreadsheet that is more a tracker than anything. We use this spreadsheet to track a list of all the articles we'd like to eventually tackle. There's a bit of automatization that helps you have the numbers for the main spreadsheet for each month if you fill up stuff correctly. WARNING: this sheet is a tad bit more complex to use/understand.
Other than the sheet (which you'll only have the link if you join the server ;) ), we have a role in the discord, called "Stubout", that people sometimes ping so other people look at their articles list and pick one article for them to write or edit!
Yaaaaay
