The War Of The Gateway

Before the citadel was formed there was a great war, this war is what caused it to form, the 9 dimensions all hated each other, they all thought that the others were going to try and conquer them so theyd need to conquer each other first, because this is just how anything with sentience thinks, rip the throat out of the beast before it can rip out yours. the dimensions went to war with the few gates stationed around the worlds, there seemed to be endless bloodshed, the ships of infinity sinking into the abyssal space from the cannons of the flame lords, the humans of terra being stormed by the undead generals of the plains of kur, and the lost realm besieged by the endless elementals and tempest storms of oceanis, this war broke the realms, not a single area left unscathed, constant back and fourth fights with no one winning, but everyone losing, families torn apart, and the stench of corpses filling the streets. then came the citadel guards, one per citadel, it originally started as a covert group to sabotage the military campaigns, one member from each realm, then they decided to each build a large structure out around the portal and use powerful magic to seal it with a barrier and a guardian to protect that barrier, each guardian was a chimera of sorts multiple powerful creatures mutated, transformed, and tortured to be the perfect army slaughtering machines, these became the citadel guardians, most of which are cynical and sadistic, these guardians locked in their citadels were challenged by various armies, none passed except for one, this dimension was known as the crypt, and that is why the world has begun to fall into ruin and war once more. some say the fallen guardian died, others say he fled, nonetheless they caused the war to start again.
