Ghost Cookies

A meal that can't be tasted with one's tongue, and which doesn't even reach one's stomache is no food at all, but rather some hideous thing that merely pretends to be food.

Out of all of the exotic and strange food items that can be purchased on the bazaars of the Yinmoujia, Ghost Cookies are perhaps one of the strangest ones.
While their outward appearance is overall quite similar to other types of biscuits, this cookie-like appearance is the only thing they have in common with more mundane sweets, for Ghost Cookies are not only far too hard to be eaten but are even outright poisonous if ingested in the standard way.
Due to this, they have to be consumed via a rather peculiar method, which requires the usage of a suitable heat source to light the cookie on fire. After ignition, the cookie will quickly start to smolder and begin to release small clouds of dense, aromatic fumes, which are commonly called "Cookie Ghosts".
While the Yinmoujia traditionally "eat" these ghosts by absorbing them through their skins, most other species instead simply inhale them, given that their skins are usually impervious to the fumes of the cookies.
Regardless of how they were absorbed, once the various substances, which are carried by the aromatic clouds, manage to reach the bloodstream of an individual they will induce a feeling of warmth and happiness, comparable to that caused by the consumption of a tooth-curlingly sweet treat.

Manufacturing process

Given the fact that the various Yinmoujia trading companies make quite a nice profit through the selling of Ghost Cookies, they naturally regard the recipe and manufacturing process of these treats as a trade secret.
And while this recipe can only be considered a minor secret by the standards of the Yinmoujia -which deal with secrets that can topple an entire kingdoms on a regular basis-, they nevertheless guard it with a great amount of security, for to the Yinmoujia secrets are a type of currency and currencies are everything to them.

To better set their cookies apart from those produced by other companies, some Yinmoujia vendors have begun to hide small stripes of fire-resistant materials within their cookies, which are inscribed with short poems or pieces of wisdom.
