Temir

Long ago there was a kingdom that was full of life. In this kingdom lived a young man named Temir. Temir worked hard each day to continue the family farm of herbs for medics. Temir loved to help grow abundant plants that he grew. Temir also loved the different animals around and often helped those that were injured or sick. In this same kingdom the kind old king had a problem of knowing who to marry his daughter to. The king came up with a plan. He called all the eligible young men to his palace. Once there the king handed each young man a pot with dirt in it. He told the men that who ever was able to grow from this seed beautiful, sweet flowers, in a one months time would marry his daughter. Temir started off home with his pot when he noticed that off to the side a peach lynx with black paws, was on the side of the road seriously injured. Temir placed his pot next to the peach lynx to help it. Several other young men walked past him laughing and saying to just let it die. One young man kicked over Temir’s pot. Termir just silently scooped up the spilt dirt into the pot, then gently picked up the peach lynx and made his short trip home. There he immediate helped the injured lynx. Over the next several weeks Temir both tended to the pot and peach lynx. The peach lynx quickly regained it’s health while the pot continued to show nothing. The lack of growth saddened Temir but he talked softly to it and sang as he would to the other plants he took care of. The night before he was to go back to the king the peach lynx was healthy enough so it disappeared into the night. The next morning when Temir found the peach lynx missing he was happy that it had healed. But he sadden when he turned to the pot that he was to take back to the king, still empty. Temir almost thought to not return but he remembered his mother telling him to have courage. So Termir returned. All around him were men and their pots full of beautiful plants and flowers. As the young men slowly went in, just as many came out empty handed and sadden. Finally it was Temir’s turn. Termir was lead to a small room and was bid to go in. Termir slowly entered, finding the king standing int he middle of the room. Pots filled with flowers were lined up along one wall. At the far end of the room sitting on a balcony with a peach lynx, that had black paws sat the kings daughter. “What do you have for me,” the king questioned once Termir stood in front of him. “All I have for you is this pot that you gave me. I watered it, I sang to it, I did all that I know to do but yet nothing has grown. It maybe that I lost the seeds as, when I left I found a peach lynx similar to the one with the princess, injured. As I was helping it some other men knocked my pot over. I thought I gathered everything but apparently not. I am sorry,” Termir answered his head bowed. The king looked at his daughter, then back at Termir before he headed to the door. “Tell the rest of the men to go home,” the king told the guard standing there. The guard nodded and did as told. “Your highness?” Termir questioned as he watched the king. “You not only had the courage to return to me with an empty pot, which all were devoid of seeds, you tell me that you are the one that helped heal my daughters pet. You are exactly what we were looking for,” The king answered. With in the next month Termir and the princess were married.   The story focuses on the kindness, courage and truth and how that is rewarded. The spread of it through out the world is most likely due to the lack of details. There are however a few variations, but the main points stay the same.
