Fire Snake

Basic Information

Anatomy

This serpent is made of fire, giving off a fierce heat that will hurt those not immune to fire if contact is made. It appears to have scales but they flow like lava and has a mane that flows like fire.

Genetics and Reproduction

These fire snakes are the off springs of Salamanders which hatch from two-foot-diameter spheres of smouldering obsidian eggs that the hatchling literally melts away.

Growth Rate & Stages

After a year a fire snake matures into a Salamander.

Ecology and Habitats

They call the elemental plane of fire home, but can be found on the material plane. They are often found in mountains and volcanos, but have been known to venture to the forests for the sheer pleasure of watching the environment catch fire around them.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Despite their impulsive fiery nature that often leads to destruction, the slavery under the efreet, this has impacted how free salamanders operate. They rile their own societies according the efreet model, in which the larger salamanders dominate the smaller of their kin, the fire snakes.    The nobles of this species are cruel and operate like nomads that raid other communities for treasure.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Long ago, the salamanders were enslaved by the Efreet on the elemental plane of fire. This was in an effort to strike back at the azers who had resisted the enslavement attempts. This unleashed a war across the elemental plane of fire. If an Efreet finds these creatures serving another they will kill them rather then enslaving them themselves.   Some fire snakes have been used by smiths, allowing their intense heat to soften and shape iron and steel. Once the fire snake matures into a salamander, if it is still loyal to the smith then it will often use it's bare hands to work the metal with the smith rather then just be an available furnace.
