Heatproof Gloves

With Droden being a land of heat and fire, it is hardly a surprise that something was needed to protect the people who work so closely with it. Droden heatproof gloves are a vital piece of equipment in many professions, and are used as far away as Virinne and Gardsel. Their quality is the result of hundreds of years of practice and is unmatched, and it is a poor smith who does not have at least one pair.   There are two kinds of heatproof gloves. Standard gloves are commonly available, and are good enough for most domestic uses. They are, however, a relatively new invention. The original kind of gloves are known as forge gloves, and are far more resilient, allowing smiths to lift heated metal out of a forge with just their gloved hands, but are both much rarer and substantially more expensive. As gloves do have a tendency to wear out, and forge gloves require such rare materials, it was vital that a replacement was found, even though it is noticeably weaker.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The leather of the gloves is mainly to hold it together, though it is also treated so as to not catch fire. The ash lizard frills or Salamander skin is what gives the gloves their heat resistance, being an almost perfect insulator in the latter case.

Significance

Heatproof gloves are of most use in Droden, since a lot of work is done around the volcanoes, such as mining for heatstones, which naturally brings with it the risk of burns. Use of heatstones in particular necessitates the use of gloves to safely move the stones. Gloves are also used by smiths throughout the world, or others who work closely with fires.
