Dimitris Halfeyed

Visionary and Comprehender of the World

Master Dimitris (a.k.a. Halfeyed)

Dimitris Halfeyed is still renowned for his insights into the underlying nature of the inconsistent world that is Challaria. He arrived in Naroydon in the early years of the 7th century to further his study of the worlds represented around Challaria, taking advantage of its central position in the worlds trade routes. Although he has worked worked with the Merchant Mages to help them organise and manage their accumulated mountain of information this was primarily to gain access to that data to better understand and classify the worlds that form this world.   His greatest insight, in the year 615, was that the internal consistency of Challaria is at the level of landmasses (be it island, continent or archipeligo) rather than the wider world. This drove his desire to understand the underlying principles rather than the superficialities of whether there is magic or dragons or the gods respond to prayer. He made good progress progress in this but remained frustrated that many things can only be explained by "because they are" - what he referred to as "worldsuck".   Although his ability to organise, classify and systematise information was respected his views on the nature of Challaria were seen as somewhere between weird and heretical until the island of Dolaria was discovered in 625 - astride the major trade route from Naros to Karenzai in what was well known to be a deserted area of ocean. As news of this spread his insight became the received wisdom for understanding Challaria and following his death it was further extended as exploration and study of the lands of Challaria revealed new mysteries and discrepencies.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Missing his left eye, which was lost when a udan's claw ricocheted up when he smashed it.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To understand the worlds of the multiverse as they are exemplified in the examples to be found around Challaria.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

An uncanny ability to see the underlying structure of the organisations and societies he studies to pick out the core principles.

Likes & Dislikes

Despite living and working in the famously beg infested suburbs of Naroydon he is famed not just for his dislike of the bugs that surround him and his neighbours but also his ruthless determination to exterminate them. He reserves a special hatred for the udan which he smashed with a hammer or incinerated in his forge.

Social

Religious Views

He grudgingly accepted the existence of one or more deities for want of a better explanation for the ongoing situation in Challaria. But he did not worship any god as the inherent contradictions made it certain that while he may be worshipping a true god he'd almost certainly be getting it wrong.

Hobbies & Pets

Opinion is divided - he believed he had several cats; the lore of the Feliculture insists that several cats had shares in Dimitris. In his spare time he tried to come up with worlds more outlandish than the ones evidenced in the landmasses of Challaria. He referred to this as World Forgery as these were creations of his mind, rather than evidenced worlds of the multiverse.

Wealth & Financial state

Initially little but he started to accumulate wealth from the early 620's from licencing the use of his tools for organising knowledge and patrons supporting the more philosophical aspects of his researches. Although there was a steady stream (transmitted by the commercial network of The Merchant Mages ) of donations from other Worldforgers he forwarded these to charities dealing with addiction and compulsive behaviour.

Mentioned in this article

Naroyden is the "low sailors" city across the harbour from Naravon in the Naros Archipelago
The Merchant Mages control the marine trade routes on Challaria by a combination of weather manipulation, insurance other dark arts.
The udan is a bug with powerful claws and sticky secretions that interferes with filing systems and is the sworn enemy of those whose jobs rely on such systems.
The The Sentient Cats of Naros are renowned for their intelligence and supercilious attitude (yes, even more so than other cats) and have an extensive culture of their own - the Feliculture. Though they rarely speak with people they have a sound understanding of human speech and their presence is considered unlucky when discussing secrets or plotting.
