Genieman

A Genieman is the general term for one who uses an Atmospheric Projector whether as hobby or profession. The former are typically hunters the latter soldiers who have been found in the forces of the Moran Duchy for over two centuries and in those of some other states of northern Tarusia for shorter periods.

Career

Qualifications

No formal or accademic qualifications are needed and if able to be a serving soldier ne should be physically qualified for the role, though the loss of an eye or a few fingers can make the Genie difficult or even impossible to use.

Career Progression

Geniemen within the Moran armed forces are normally recruitde from the ranks of trained soldiery or militia. A genie is an exensive item of equipment and trusting one to a soldier who has not already shown ability and loyalty would be foolish. Occasionally in times of war, those who own Genies will be pressed directly into the ranks of the Geniemen, bypassing time in the ranks.

Payment & Reimbursement

Geniemen receive a slightly higher rate of pay than the typical soldier - the amount varying between unit and state, but typically 10% more.   Many units pride themselves on the sped and accuracy of their geniework and competitions within and between units are common. The prizes for these can be considerable and a skilled genieman can double his pay (or even better that) in peaceful time through these competitions.

Other Benefits

The pay differential is not a great difference, what is more important to most is that the geniemen are more rarely employed in hand to hand fighting and the need to maintain their arms and protect them from corrosion as well as their status gives them priority when billets are allocated - as any experienced campaigner will agree, those benefits are not inconsiderable!

Skills and Tactics

In a solid block geniemen can pose a major impediment to enemy forces but they are most effectively used in small groups to delay and disrupt. Once the basics of the use of his weapon have been drilled into him, the genieman will begin to learn these tactics, which have clear links to those used in hunting.   Geniemen will also often acquire skills in the repair and maintenance of their arms, and a number will move on to work in other fields of mechanisms as a result of their experience with this profession. The most prized of these skills is the production or repair of reservoirs which, on account of the high pressures involved demands great skill to avoid leaks or failure while recharging.
