Branding Bolt
Branding Bolt
Level 2 Evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a pinch of brimstone)
Duration: Instantaneous
Description: With a guttural chant and a flick of your wrist, you hurl a searing bolt of infernal energy at your foes. A crackling, crimson streak tears through the air, striking a creature of your choice within range. Choose one of the following effects:
Scorching Mark: The bolt erupts in a burst of infernal flame, searing the target for 1d6 fire damage. Additionally, the target is branded with a smoldering sigil of the Abyss, causing disadvantage on its next saving throw against a spell you cast before the start of your next turn.
Burning Ire: The bolt embeds itself within the target, igniting a burning rage within them. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target is consumed by fiery anger, becoming hostile towards all other creatures within 30 feet of it for 1 minute. The enraged creature has advantage on Strength checks and melee weapon attack rolls but has disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and Dexterity saving throws. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not enraged.
Infernal Taunt: The bolt twists reality around the target, drawing the attention and ire of infernal fiends from beyond the planes. The target is subjected to a barrage of mocking whispers and taunts from unseen fiends, forcing them to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target becomes so distracted by the infernal jeering that it has disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws and attack rolls until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not taunted.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage of the Scorching Mark effect increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 2nd. Additionally, the Burning Ire effect lasts for 1 minute longer for each slot level above 2nd.
Classes: Warlock (any patron), Bard (College of Valor), Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline), Fighter (Eldritch Knight)
Lore: Whispered amidst fiery rituals and muttered by desperate souls, Branding Bolt embodies the raw wrath of the Abyss. This potent spell inflicts fiery pain, ignites burning rage, and draws the scorn of hellish fiends, making it a versatile tool for combat, distraction, and sowing chaos amongst your enemies. With its diverse offensive options and infernal allure, Branding Bolt demands careful aim and controlled rage, lest you become consumed by the very flames you unleash.
Notes:
This spell offers diverse damage, control, and debuff options. The choice of effect caters to tactical situations and party needs. The upcasting potential increases damage and duration, enhancing the spell's impact. The infernal theme and fiery nature of the spell encourage strategic spellcasting, creative roleplaying, and exploration of the consequences of wielding infernal power.
