Dwarf

Dwarves are unchanged in almost all ways but one, they are almost immortal. They do not die of old age, and even stop aging once reaching adulthood. Dwarves are gender polyphasic meaning they can change genders. Dwarves are typically an insular people and don’t discuss gender with outsiders, they find the matter to be a deeply personal issue and will not put up with stereotyping or gender bias in their presence. Dwarves can alter their gender through a process known as “The Transition” in which they drink a series of teas and smoke a regiment of different herbs over the course of two years from start to finish. The teas and herbs are the same for transitioning either direction, the only change is the order you take them in. A Dwarven female who is pregnant and begins the transition will carry the baby to term before the transition progresses too far and then will catch up after the birth. Dwarves actually have to change gender or subrace periodically or they will die. Changing Subrace also requires a transition, but it is a much shorter process lasting only a year and a day. They must perform a transition each Changing of the Ages. Every 1000 years a Dwarf must undergo a transition or resist it. If they resist, they must succeed a wisdom save and a constitution save DC 11, or they take a permanent level of exhaustion that cannot be recovered from except with a Wish spell or similar magic. When a transition becomes resisted, the Dwarf begins aging very slowly until the next time they transition at which point they stop aging again.
