Frost Sigil of Silence
Frost Sigil of Silence
3rd-level abjurationCasting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a vial of quicksilver with 1 sp worth of powdered silver suspended within it, a leaf from a rubber plant, and a fragment of a silent bell, all of which are consumed with spellcasting)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
Frost Sigil of Silence is an abjuration spell that invokes the chilling stillness of winter to suppress sound within a designated area. This spell is more than a mere dampening of noise; it is a fusion of cold magic and silence, a creation of a zone where sound is not just muffled but frozen, held captive in the icy embrace of the sigil's power.
Upon casting, the crystal with the snowflake and the silent bell fragment emanate a frigid aura, the air around them frosting over. The caster draws a sigil in the air, which then drifts to the chosen point and settles onto the ground or a surface. This sigil glows with a soft, icy blue light, radiating a cold that is felt more in the soul than on the skin.
Zone of Silence: The Frost Sigil creates a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point within range. Within this sphere, all sounds are extinguished, creating an eerie, unnatural silence. Conversations become impossible, and even the clashing of swords or the firing of arrows makes no noise.
Mechanic: Within the sigil’s area of effect, no sound can be created, and even magical sounds are nullified. This suppression of sound prevents any spell that requires a verbal component from being cast and disrupts communication between creatures. It also provides tactical advantages in stealth operations or in situations where silence is paramount.
Icy Resonance: The chilling aura of the sigil has a secondary effect – it slightly hinders the movement of enemies within its radius. The cold seems to seep into muscles and bones, making movements sluggish and reactions slower. Enemies in the area have their speed reduced by 10 feet.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the radius of the silence increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 3rd. As long as you cast this spell with a 4th level or higher spell slot, you may choose to extend the duration by an additional 8 hours for each additional vial of quicksilver and powdered silver suspension fluid you sacrifice by pouring onto the sigil after casting the spell.

Frost Sigil of Silence is more than just a spell; it is a manifestation of winter’s hush, a magical interpretation of the stillness that follows a snowfall. The spell symbolizes the power of silence and the strategic value of sound suppression, blending the elemental force of cold with the tactical necessity of quietude. It offers not only a way to stifle sound but also a means to control the battlefield, making it a versatile tool in both stealth and combat scenarios.
