Glimpse
Glimpse
Divination cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Sight, within 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a drop of holy water or a quartz worth at least 1 gp, either one is consumed by the spellcasting)
Duration: Variable*
You reach out with your mind and touch the soul of another creature, briefly seeing through its eyes, hearing what it hears, and feeling what it feels. You can use this spell to communicate with the creature, if it is willing, or to spy on it, if it is unaware. The spell lasts for 1d4 + your spellcasting attack bonus in rounds or until you end it as a reaction.
This spell allows you to experience the world from a different perspective, gaining insight, empathy, or curiosity. You can use it to share a moment of connection with a friend, a lover, or a pet, or to learn something new from a stranger, an enemy, or an animal. You can also use it to gain an advantage in combat, exploration, or social situations, by seeing what your opponent sees, finding hidden paths, or reading someone’s emotions. You may while the spell remains active utilize this Glimpse into the other's inner nature to use any proficiencies they might have which you do not in weapons, languages, tools, skills, and saving throws; but you may only use one of their proficiencies per turn and it still uses your ability modifiers.
However, this spell also exposes you to the risks and dangers of the target’s situation, as well as its thoughts and feelings. You may witness something you wish you hadn’t, or feel something you don’t want to feel. You may also alert the target to your presence, if it is hostile or suspicious. You should be careful not to lose yourself in the glimpse, or to overstep your boundaries with the target. A glimpse can go both ways after all. Meaning if the connected target realizes you are connected, they can listen for that link within and peer through it that same way you are using it while the spell is active.
While this spell is active, any Spell Attacks you make that deal Psychic damage are made with advantage if targeting the same creature as the target of this spell. Any Spells you cast which have the psionic tag, or deal Psychic damage and require a saving throw instead force that saving throw to be made at disadvantage by a target of this spell. This spell's duration increases by 1d4 when you reach 5th level (2d4), 11th level (3d4), and 17th level (4d4). Classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
