Shadow Loom of Leng
Shadow Loom of Leng
2nd-level illusion, shadowCasting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (15-foot radius)
Components: V, S, M (a shard of obsidian and a piece of cloth from a creature's shadow)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
This spell weaves a haunting and impenetrable shroud of shadows, drawn from the very essence of the mythical and dreaded plateau of Leng. Upon uttering the incantation, shadows begin to coalesce around you, creating a 15-foot radius sphere of darkness. The darkness is supernatural, impervious to all non-magical light, and it moves with you, centered on yourself.
Within this sphere, reality appears warped and surreal. The edges of objects blur, and distant sounds seem eerily distorted, as if filtered through a veil of otherworldliness. To any creature outside the sphere, those within are completely obscured, their forms blending into the amorphous darkness.
Creatures within the darkness have their vision limited to a mere 5 feet, and even then, it's as if they're peering through a dense, inky fog. This spell doesn’t affect darkvision but renders it monochrome and unsettling, tinting the world in shades of gray and black.
Any creature that starts its turn within the darkness must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they are afflicted by disorienting visions and echoes of Leng, suffering disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks until the start of their next turn. These visions manifest as fleeting glimpses of otherworldly landscapes, strange, twisted creatures, and unsettling, indecipherable whispers.
While concentrating on this spell, you can use a bonus action on your turn to momentarily thin the darkness in a specific 5-foot radius area within the sphere. This action allows for brief, but clearer vision and communication within this area, before the shadows reconverge at the end of your turn.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the radius of the darkness increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 2nd.
