Spirit Surge
Spirit Surge
Level 3 Evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (60-foot sphere)
Components: V, S, M (a spirit totem carved from ancient bones)
Duration: 1 minute (concentration)
Description: With a roar that echoes through the unseen realms, you call upon the raw energy of the spirit world. A swirling vortex of ethereal mist erupts around you, crackling with raw power. Choose one of the following effects:
Empowering Tempest: The vortex lashes outward, empowering your allies. Each creature of your choice within the sphere, including yourself, gains a +2 bonus to attack rolls and saving throws for the duration of the spell. Additionally, any melee weapon attack they make within the sphere deals an additional 1d6 force damage. Frightful Maelstrom: The vortex twists and churns, unleashing a wave of terror. Each creature of your choice within the sphere that can see you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature is frightened of you for the duration of the spell. On a successful save, a creature is only shaken for 1 round. Spectral Guardians: From the swirling energy, three spectral warriors take form, resembling ancient hunters or protectors. These guardians act as your allies for the duration of the spell, using their ethereal claws and spears to attack your enemies. They have the same statistics as a CR 1 Shadow, and you can command them with your bonus action to move within the sphere and target specific enemies. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the bonus to attack rolls and saving throws, the additional force damage, and the number of spectral guardians increase by 1 for each slot level above 3rd.
Classes: Bard, College of Spirits Bard, Cleric, Druid, Ranger, Spirit Shaman (homebrew class)
Lore: Whispered of by shamans who commune with the storm spirits, Spirit Surge channels the raw power of the ethereal realm, empowering allies, unleashing waves of fear, or calling upon spectral guardians to fight by your side. This versatile spell offers potent battlefield control, offensive options, and powerful support, making it a valuable tool for any adventurer who dares to tap into the hidden forces of the world.
Notes:
This spell provides significant battlefield flexibility, allowing you to buff your allies, debuff enemies, or summon powerful ethereal warriors. The choice of effect allows for adaptation to the situation and your party's needs. The upcasting potential strengthens the buffs, damage, and number of guardians, enhancing its impact in higher-level encounters. The evocative nature of the spell encourages creative descriptions and tactical decision-making, adding depth and excitement to combat encounters.
