The Jester's Echo
The Jester's Echo
Level 2 EnchantmentCasting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a tinkling bell and a fragment of a jester's mask)
Duration: 1 minute
Description: With a mischievous grin and a flick of your wrist, you unleash a wave of playful chaos, warping the perception of time and space for your chosen targets. Choose up to two creatures within range that you can see. Each target must make a Wisdom saving throw.
On a failed save: The target's sense of reality twists and bends. They experience the following effects:
Temporal Tangledog: The target loses track of time, becoming unable to take reactions or bonus actions on their turn. They have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws and initiative rolls.
Echoing Footsteps: Illusions of the target's own movements flicker around them, making it difficult to discern their true location. Creatures attacking the target have disadvantage on attack rolls until the beginning of their next turn.
On a successful save: The target is unaffected by the spell, but still feels a shiver of unease as reality shudders around them.
As an action on each of your subsequent turns, you can choose one of the following effects for each affected target:
Distort Time: The target loses 10 feet of movement speed until the end of their next turn.
Mirror Misdirection: Force the target to make another Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they teleport up to 30 feet to a random unoccupied space within range. Otherwise, the effect ends for them.
At Higher Levels: 3rd Level: You can target one additional creature with the spell.
4th Level: The target loses an additional 10 feet of movement speed from the Distort Time effect.
5th Level: As an action, you can end the spell for one creature and immediately apply The Jester's Echo to a new creature within range, even if they previously succeeded on the saving throw.
Classes: Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock
Lore: Whispers of this spell dance on the wind in the courts of mischievous fey and the shadowy taverns of rogues. Its origins are shrouded in mystery, some attributing it to a bored and playful Archfey, while others claim it was born from the laughter of a forgotten trickster god. Regardless of its source, The Jester's Echo is a potent tool for those who delight in disrupting plans and sowing confusion. It throws enemies off balance and creates openings for unexpected maneuvers, leaving them feeling like helpless puppets tangled in the strings of fate.
Notes: This spell offers a mix of offensive and defensive utility, enabling you to slow down enemies, create confusion, and potentially even teleport them away.
The choice of effects on subsequent turns adds tactical depth and allows you to adapt to the situation.
The spell's whimsical nature and lore encourage creative roleplaying and unexpected uses.
