J3-18 Arlo`s Furniture

Written by Adsmalley

A large triangular two-level building of post and beam construction, made from heavy timbers with wood plank siding and wooden shingles over a plank roof with a 4:12 pitch (15° slope) supported by the same heavy-timber framework.   This is a very successful and old business within the Black Swan district, dating back at least several centuries. Arlo Vedelfar, it is rumored, is the original founder of the shop that is known far and wide for building wood furniture of both common and fine workmanship (they will take a lot of extra time to increase the durability and decorative nature if you are willing to pay the extra for this level of detail). The business is currently managed by old-man Arlo Vedelfar IV with his son, Arlo Vedelfar V and daughter-in-law Emria Vedelfar starting to take over the busienss, a large group of relatives that can be traced back at least four generations, with different generations working together. The older members of the family teaching their craft to the younger generations as the younger generations grow and learn. The entire Vedelfar family is quite large, however many move away and start furniture businesses of their own in other locations (usually outside of the Channel Cities) or entered other professions. There are also a few family members who due to marriage have other last names that still work in the family business. Unlike many of the shops around the Channel Cities, the upper floors of the building are also used for the business rather than for living quarters. All the family members live elsewhere, but often not very far away (the majority live within the Black Swan District, with a few living in the neighboring districts of Martelain).   Return to the Channel Cities, Martelain or the J3 Black Swan District of Martelain.
