K4-27 Pegerson Scribery, Maps and Bookbinding

Written by Adsmalley

This odd semi-triangular shaped tower of finely cut interlocking stone rises nearly 50 feet tall. It is the second tallest building in the Merchant’s Square District of Martelain, with only the Temple of Lothien being taller. A large iron-bound double door in the middle of the south-west wall is the only opening in the structure below about 30 feet up. A large carved and painted wooden sign hangs above the door that reads “Pegerson Scribery, Maps and Bookbinding” in very fancy letters.   It is owned and operated by Loyd Pegerson and his wife Meansi Pegerson.   During daylight hours, the doors are usually open (except in bad weather, or when riots break out in the neighborhood). These doors open to a large open room that covers the entire first floor of the structure, with most of the walls lined with wooden shelves covered with thousands of books, scroll tubes and various pieces of parchment or the likes. A huge desk and several tables sit in a hap-hazard arrangement within this large room, with at least one of the owners of the shop sitting at one of them or assisting customers. There are two open stairways that lead up to a balcony at about 8 feet above the open floor, then continue up to a second balcony at about 16 feet and a third at about 24 feet. The stairs also continue further up, penetrating the ceiling at this height. But what lies in the upper levels of the tower is a mystery to most people in the neighborhood.     More details to come (still have lots of data to import from more than four decades of both paper and electronic documentation)...   Floor plans for this establisment will follow when time permits to scan them in and get them uploaded.   Return to Channel Cities, Martelain, or the K4 Merchant’s Square District of Martelain.
