K4-68 Forster Barbery and Surgeon

Written by Adsmalley

This oddly shaped building of wood construction has a second level that is set within the roof, with a few dormers jutting out from the thatch roof. The owners, Doug Forster and his wife Aethelthrith Forster, have their living quarters on the upper level, while the lower level is dedicated to their barber and surgery services. While cutting hair and shaving beards is their primary business, they do occasionally remove rotten teeth, perform amputations, and lance boils, and leeching of other sicknesses as needed.   Of course, Doug's last name is not what anyone would expect for someone of this profession, but he served an apprenticeship learning the trade from the previous owner, who was also Aethelthrith's mother. He had gotten to know the family through his father, who was was a hunter by trade and often sold healing herbs to Aethelthrith's mother. But due to Doug being small and weak when he hitting his teenage years, his father, who was an avid follower of Druidry had him train with a local Druid, but his son, while oderately intelligent did not have what it took to pass the testing needed to enter the Druidical College for more advanced training, so instead he asked Aethelthrith's mother if he could serve as an apprentice to her. It was during this time, that Doug and Aethelthrith became a couple and then took over her family business when her mother passed rather suddenly from the "Purple Pox" (a disease that causes the flesh to develop severe purple rashes that lead to the skin starting to blister and then appear to rot). Following the norm for Martelain and Balmast society, Aethelthrith took Doug's family name and they changed the name on their sign after her mothers death.   They have several beds for patients who require these services, since those suffering with such issues can sometimes be bedridden for extended periods of time located in the back of the lower level.   Floor plans for this establisment will follow when time permits to scan them in and get them uploaded.   Return to Channel Cities, Martelain, or the K4 Merchant’s Square District of Martelain.
