Swamp Yaga

Malevolent crones, swamp Yaga are the more treacherous of the ancient Yaga species. These creatures live in the deep swamps and marshes on worlds like Earth or Netherwarren. Solitary monsters, they are fond of collecting spells and ancient knowledge for their own personal gain. Countless adventurers have tried to outwit or defeat her for that reward. Most wind up serving her whims for at least a century, or wind up in her stew pot.

In her native form, a swamp Yaga appears as a wizened, ancient woman with a permanent sneer. Her blood-red eyes glint with malicious amusement, as if she’s already devised a cunning plan of revenge. Unlike her Yaga sisters, a swamp Yaga prefers to use illusions to get her way.

The swamp Yaga’s preferred disguise is an attractive young woman that is lost in the swamp. A mask to lure an unsuspecting adventurer into her black claws, or simply ruin their lives to leave them a broken shadow of who they once were.

But, like others of the Gray Sisterhood, swamp Yaga also protects the land they call home. They are secret guardians that keep the marshes and swamps safe from harm. Adventurers that respect those lands will find they have earned an uneasy alliance with this murderous monster. As long as they show respect to her lands, the Yaga will show respect. Perhaps even grant them a favor or two, for a price.
