Libra - Cacophony of Intersections
The Cacophony of Intersections are where the paths of people crisscrossing and often crashing together. These are the sounds of Wade Russel's stories. The sound of a bullet breaking glass, the sound of a father slain, the sound of a girlfriend saved and the sound of a hero being born.
As King Cobra and his thugs stepped into the Libra Research Lab he smiled and his reptiles eye slits flickered. "Nobody resist and nobody gets hurt!" His face was obscured by overly bright tattoos that shift and crawl across his skin, while his eyes said he hoped we disobeyed. He looked like a reject from late night wrestling. Jessica's scream tore the night as the beaker fell from her hands and shattered. King Cobra smiled deeper as if marked off a check box and the sound of gunfire erupted.
Wade could only hear the sound of a single bullet, as his world narrowed down to very specific factors. The bullet that pierced not one, but both of the NanoTech Containment Units keeping the two elements of project Second Skin separate and inactive. The bullet led the way like a match igniting gasoline as the NanoTech activated upon contact with its counterpart and Wade as its biological agent. The bonding started immediately as it pervasively intertwined with him already working to sustain his critically injured body.
At the same moment Wade's father was standing near Jessica and quickly stepped in front of her placing himself between the hail of bullets and Jessica. Through his selfless act he sacrificed himself to protect her.
As Wade lay sprawled on the floor a pool of blood forming around him his senses exploded throughout the room. He could feel the nanites racing through his body and he could feel the technology throughout the room. It's like every electronic sensor suddenly woke up to him. He could smell the cellphone in King Cobra pocket vibrating with anticipation. His first though is this must be the blood lose.
Like a b-movie horror film gone wrong, the Cobra tattoos on King Cobra's arms shifted and crawled as his arms lengthened forming Cobra heads in place of arms. One arm lashed out at Dave trying to escape the emergency exit. He lifted Dave off the floor and squeezed with bone snapping strength. The other Cobra head spit a stream of venom striking Roger's arms as he staggered and dropped to the floor motionless.
For some reason that he could not remember, Wade's side itched, and was soaked as he lay in confusion. His eyes focused on his father lying motionless back covered in bullet wounds. Jessica was pinned under him hysterical and crying which seemed to rouse him to clarity. King Cobra rolled his father off with the shove of his foot and sneered at her. "Your a noisy one, this is your fault", as one of his arms snaked back ready to strike while the other tossed Dave's unconscious body at a lab cart.
Wade barely realized what he was doing as his legs launched him forward tackling the pair of thugs with guns. The thug that hit the wall first and hardest slumped to the floor while the other tried to bring his submachine gun around. Almost as reflex Wade's hand shot up and bent the barrel slightly malformed it causing a misfire blinding the thug. King Cobra turned to focus on Wade now loosing interest in the terrified girl. "Oh good, there will be time for fun", his snake like arms slithering in anticipation.
King Cobra spit a stream of venom and when it struct Wade he felt his skin tingle and the liquid dripped away harmless. A look of surprise from King Cobra as Wade stepped forward. "You will not hurt anyone else!" Sirens could be heard in the distance.
Both combatants locked together trying to overwhelm the other as King Cobra began to loose confidence no longer having surprise, fear and his thugs on his side. He choose the villainous thing to do overturning a lab burner near the girl and fleeing while they delt with the situation. Having seen Wade's face and recognizing Libra later he holds a special hatred for him and the failure he caused King Cobra.
Burdens
Wade would know the weight of guilt for years to come. He had invited his father to both share in his final prototype and provide advise in the final steps. He wanted to make his father proud of his accomplishments and it cost him his life. Wade's mother and Jessica would help him through his grief and remind him that his father stood for something and it was Wade's responsibility to carry on his legacy.Reflections
Wade was born with the talent of Technokinesis which while passively benefiting his research career had never come to the forefront. This is why many times Wade could succeed on an experiment or research project let another person could not reproduce his results.The event of the laboratory invasion and the activation of Project Second Skin awakened Wade's talent blending them both together.
