The Gnawtooth Clan
'"Listen to Gnawtooth. Do what Gnawtooth says and Khurgorbaeyag will give you big army in heaven. Big army and lots of grog!" The official organizational doctrine of this barbaric clan of monsters. At least that's all we could get out of the little creature before it succumbed to its injuries.' - Overseer Justinian of the Calogore Sun Guard, Travels in Upper Chardovia: A Pilgrim's Account
Structure
Gnawtooth, the Bugbear controls the entire clan. He tells the goblins what, where, and how to raid. When the clan is thinly spread, he often nominates lieutenants to lead battle groups. These tend to be goblins who have shown intelligence or initiative in past battles (i.e. they survived) or other bugbears loyal to Gnawtooth.
Public Agenda
To raid, pillage, and make off with the grog.
Demography and Population
- Bugbears (18-20%)
- Goblins (80-82%)
- Hobgoblins (<2%)
Territories
The Clan's nomadic nature makes it hard to pinpoint an exact territory. They tend to move to areas that have ill-defended livestock or other resources. As such they avoid areas under the jurisdiction of the Sun Guard (i.e the Calgori Imperial Lands) and areas known for the presence of giants (e.g. the Oxtooth Mountains). Their campsites are often found in forests, abandoned mines, or large grassy fields such as the Elia Fields and the Great Planes. The latter often brings them into conflict with Gnoll packs.
Military
Goblins are known for their cunning in battle - at least when they are the ones doing the attacking. They seldom fight to the death - perhaps this is a symptom of their selfishness, but when a bugbear commands the fight, they are unlikely to flee. It is well-known that - to a goblin - a disappointed bugbear chieftain is far more frightening than a well-equipped group of adventurers.
It has been reported that the Clan employs traps and mounts (e.g. mongrel canines and vultures) to gain the dishonorable upper hand. A typical raiding party often has a scout or sneak that warns of approaching caravans and travelers.
Goblins love an easy win, so they are likely to attack foes they believe will pose little to no challenge to them.
Religion
The Clan worships an obscure deity named Khurgorbaeyag.
