Personal history

It is believed that Hastur is an entity from the Outer Realms - a place beyond even multiverse and the First Gods. The Great Old Ones are perhaps gods in their own right and are somehow related to the First Gods (the primordials), but this seems unknowable.

Like other Great Old Ones, Hastur has tried to find a way into the multiverse and grow his power. Perhaps he hopes to become a god in our pantheon, but again, this is beyond knowing. There have been accounts of remote villages and isolated communities driven mad by worshiping a symbol referred to as The Yellow Sign. In such cases, villages are found abandoned, buildings draped in yellow, food half-eaten on the table.

It is also said that Hastur makes himself known to warlocks and bards alike - promising them fame and retribution. There are those who believe that he holds the secret to godly inspiration and can grant immortality (at a cost). This, of course, is no more than legend. Be that as it may, in the Ballad of Calliope, there is mention of a "King in Yellow" who "offered our Lady a ladder to the Gods".
