Wood Elf

Culture

Coming of Age Rites

When an Elf comes of age (i.e. reaches the age of 100), they are given an adult name (usually befitting their ancestry and usually with some natural connection) and a memory of their ancestors to protect and pass on when they themselves die.

Funerary and Memorial customs

A Wood Elf is not considered properly buried until they are interred underneath or near a tree.

Common Myths and Legends

While most Elves know that they were created from the blood of Corellon, the Wood Elves believe that their 'mother' is the natural world.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Wood Elves see beauty in nature, thus dirt and symbiotic plant growth are seen as beautiful. They tend to shin metal or overly manufactured goods and attire in favour of natural armor, weapons, and clothing.   Female Wood Elves take great pride in their hair - letting it grow long and keeping it brushed. They often weave flowers or vines into their hair to reflect their social standing or occupation.

Gender Ideals

Neither male or female is favoured for (what humans believe to be) typical gender roles. Elves also have no conventions concerning sexual orientation - in fact, due to their longevity, an elf often changes their preference every decade or so. There are no restrictions for which gender can lead or rule.
