Misty Wastelands

Located northwest of the Albynic city of Syphon, the Misty Wastelands are best characterized by it's blend of geography, possessing patches of dry, cracked earth within a vast, largely barren desert expanse. The trail end of a single, small river feeds the town of Puseq among the northern wastelands.

Geography

The Misty Wastelands is largely a desert, though the rolling sand dunes are broken up by patches of dry earth scored with deep fissures a dozen feet wide and half a mile long. These fissures can run into sandy areas, creating sunken patches of loose sand that can engulf unsuspecting travelers in an instant, causing them to suffocate.   The only reprive within the wastelands lies within the tiny town of Puseq, located in a small oasis fed by the tip of the Bruny River. The town lies roughly 30 miles from the northern border of the waste, and is 120 miles northwest from the city of Syphon.

Ecosystem

Best characterized by its lack of plants or wildlife, the Mist Waste has instead found its ecosystem wrapped in myths and legends of ancient temples, ruins, and the explorers who either became rich from discovering such treasures, or who died searching for them. In addition to such rumors, there have also been several reports of dangerous monsters and creatures lurking within the dust storms, such as the burrows left behind by a Purple Worm, or alleged sightings of a Skull Lord.   Evidence of both treasure and terrors has resulted in the layman avoiding the region entirely, while many researchers looking to make a name for themselves are killed within the wastes by either the environment or by the very monsters they sought.

Localized Phenomena

The wasteland is characterized by large and long-lasting dust or sandstorms that occur roughly once per season and last up to twenty days at a time. During these storms, winds can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour (321 kilometers per hour) and can cause loose boulders weighing several tons to go hurtling through the air.
